[identity profile] skittles22088.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I just saw a gem on Facebook. A boy born last night:

Adalai Alexander

is it just me, or is the first name more for a girl than a boy?

Absolutely that's a girls name. Weird.

It is traditionally a male name, though I more often see it spelled Adlai.

You beat me to it! It's definitely a male name.

Relatively common boys' name amongst northern Africans at my university.

To which I might add- never seen it used for a girl, ever.

It certainly sounds rather feminine to me, but I've never heard it before, so it may just be reminding me of somewhat similar feminine names, like Adele or Adelia.

I think it's just you. Adalai is a male name. And so is Adlai if it's meant to be a variant of that.

No, Adlai is a male name. I'm not sure where the extra a comes from though.

Definitely a guy's name, although I prefer Adlai.

Male name, though usually spelled differently, I think. ^^

I quite like it. The initials A.A. are cool. Alexander is fantastic. Adelai has a certain charm.

However, I don't think I could name an actual human baby this. It does LOOK rather feminine... Adlai looks more masculine.

Hmm, honestly, I think it's just you, I'm pretty sure Adlai/Adalai is a boys' name, not a girls'. You might be thinking of Adelaide which is from a different origin (I believe Adlai is a Hebrew name while Adelaide is German?), and that is definitely a girls' name.

Really? I think it sounds masculine.

Seems masculine to me.
