It's funny how we were just talking about US states as human names the other day, because today I actually met a little girl in my checkout line named Arizona. She was about 6 or 7. WDYT? I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it...

I never thought of it as a name until they introduced Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey's Anatomy. It really didn't even seem odd as a name so I have no problems with it.

I'm not opposed to place names as names at all, but for me personally, Arizona is too much of a state name to work. I have no clue why that goes for Arizona but not for some other states, though. Yet, I don't hate it!

Strangely enough, I realized the other day that the county of Nevada is pronounced differently from the state - ne-vAda instead of Ne-vahda. It might just be that it sounds different from the state, but the county strikes me as more name like.

Ahhh ok. There's a Nevada City and Nevada County in CA. I know someone who grew up there, so I was like, have we been pronouncing the names wrong all this time?

CA also has a city called El Dorado Hills, (prn. door-ah-doh) so I was always thrown off by the FLDS compound called El Dorado, with a long A sound. Isn't that in TX too?
