middle name ideas

We're naming our daughter River (a name I absolutely LOVE) and our last name is Johnson.  We have been stuck for months thinking of a middle name that goes with River.  We wanted something more normal for her middle name in case she doesn't like River when she's older she can use her middle name. 

Any ideas for River _____ Johnson?

Thanks! Amelia is actually a name my husband liked (he loves these books where that's the protagonist's name). I like Elizabeth but he doesn't. Claire is a favorite name of mine, but there is a county Claire in Ireland, and my family's Irish, so I don't want to name her after the River Claire lol!

Madeline is a great idea, and I like the name Sophia too- thanks so much for the list!

As you narrow down names, I would use your Google-fu to ensure that there are no major rivers that share your kid's name. For instance, you're not going to want a River Shannon Johnson. The playful ribbing would get old after awhile.

My first thought was River Elizabeth, but I see your husband doesn't like it. A nice thing about Elizabeth though if you wanted a name she could use if she doesn't want to be called River, is that it has so many nicknames; Lizzie, Beth, Betty, etc. I also like River Amelia which I saw suggested.

I like a 3 syllable middle name to go with River Johnson.

Carolyn is actually my name, and my husband suggested it for a middle name but I thought it might be weird- why is it weird to name a child after their mother but totally normal to be after the father? Thanks for the ideas!

I don't think it's weird, but then I have my mom's middle name. I think that would be a great reason to pick a name!

i agree with you on using something more traditional for the middle name, i think its great that you are doing that.

its tough to come up with a middle name, because i keep thinking its the name of a river, you know? like, i was going to suggest river catherine, but there's a katherine river is canada. it might be irrelevant, but it would bother me.

river isnt my style, but i like the idea of it on a girl! sorry i know i am not much help! :)

ETA: i wanted to suggest river caroline!
