[identity profile] german-e12.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, I was talking baby-names with a good friend of mine, and she told me that if she ever had a girl, she would be naming her

Lucy (first name) Diamond (first middle name) Skye (second middle name)

Apparently, this is supposed to be in honor of the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".

WDYT??

I *personally* think the name is atrocious! Of course, anyone's opinion is welcome, but I really want to know if I'm alone in thinking this...

Using Lucy would be in honor of the song. Using that combination is just stupid.

thiiiis.

I have considered using Lucy for the Beatles reference [it helps that Lucille is a family name for me!], but "Lucy Diamond Skye" just sounds stupid. :\

well at this point if you're going to be so obvious about it, at least put it in the right order.

i like lucy though.

exactly what I was thinking-- might as well put it in order.

In I am Sam, Dakota Fanning's character is named Lucy Diamond Dawson after "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

I think it's a little silly, personally.

I'm a pretty hardcore Beatles fan and I think it's really corny. Lucy would suffice, and still stay pretty classy.

I love Lucy. And Skye isn't horrible, although I would never use it. However... I have always thought Diamond sounded like the name of an exotic dancer. So absolutely not on that front.

of all the ridiculous names in honor of things out there in the world, this really isn't that annoying.

I think it's cheesy as hell, but I've heard worse names. I like Lucy a lot, actually. And most people won't know her obnoxious middle names.

I would definitely have it be Lucy Skye Diamond if that were it. That said, it's not as bad as other names. And Lucy is one of my favorite names. She doesn't have to admit to her MNs =)

The names themselves are fine - Diamond and Skye are nms at all, though I do love Lucy, but the moment I saw the name I knew what it was supposed to be and... not a fan. I think it's pretty lame

Lucy, yes. Skye, also yes. Diamond? NO. Altogether...trying way too hard.

I think it's okay, but my sister says the girl will get made fun of. I personally think Diamond should be dropped, and have it just be Lucy Skye... that sounds almost severely awesome to me, and still represents the song.

Holy crap, I just thought of why she didn't put it in 'proper' order. Lucy Skye Diamond... LSD. 0.o Maybe it's just me...?

You're not the only one. Based on what my mother told me, a lot of people back in the day thought the song was about LSD, too.

Lol, okay, glad it's not just me. XD Lol sixties. I love them so. :)

It seems a bit repetitive to me. Plain old Lucy is enough. While a cool song I hope she knows that the girl the song was inspired by died well before her time. I think it was lupus.

It's kind of tacky. Lucy is alright on its own, Skye is meh, and I've never been a fan of Diamond, but altogether it looks way too obvious and makes them seem like they're trying too hard.

oh dear, it's not even in the right order. i don't like two middle names in the first place, and here, it's totally overkill... i'm a little biased to like skye, lucy's not my favorite, and diamond is a little extreme (though i will admit to being okay with it as a middle name because of lotr... *sheepish glance*)
