(no subject)

what do you guys think of the name crosby? where does it fit better, on a boy or girl?

(i dont hate it, i might actually like it, but i seriously doubt i would ever use it. i used to live on crosby street in nyc and also, there is a crosby school in the area i live in now, so its too connected to inanimate objects or places. so, just throwing thoughts out there.)

ETA: i am not canadian and have no interest in hockey and until this post, had never heard of sidney crosby. thanks though everyone!

Boy. Not my fave, though.

It's definitely a boys name, but I can't like it. All I think of is Sidney Crosby and I LOATHE that guy.

It's definitely very Sidney Crosby; he's from my province so that's all that name will ever mean to me. Definitely fits better on a boy than girl.

It would only be acceptable for a boy, but I'm not a fan.

Also, I hope his friends aren't Stills, Nash, or Young. Or maybe I hope they are.

my reaction exactly.

I actually kind of like the sound of this name, and it would definitely be a boy's name, but it's far too linked with Sidney Crosby to get away with it in Canada, and probably in a lot of the US too.

It was my last name until I got married. I've never heard of it as a first name. It means "by the cross", though.

I would always say "Crosby, as in Bing" when giving my name.

But my favorite is Fanny Crosby, author of over 6000 hymns. She was also the first woman to address congress.

Definitely reminds me of Sidney Crosby. I wonder how many babies are going to be getting named that in the next few months, since he's a national hero of sorts now.

I'd said it's definitely a boy name but I could see someone using it for a girl, as people like to do. Don't particularly like it though. Maybe because I'm an Ovechkin fan..

It's a last name to me, not a first name. Hockey associations aside, it makes me think of a detective, cop, or soldier who goes by his last name--Officer Crosby, or something like that. I just can't picture it on a child, regardless of gender.

boy

My last name is Crosbie and it ALWAYS gets spelled like Crosby, so to me it's nothing more than a last name, it would be weird to me as a first name.

I don't like it, personally, but I may be biased.
Also, I hate Sindney as well, so that doesn't help, hah.
