[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Since I can't find them on BehindtheName.com, which I think is pretty high up there in baby name awesomeness, does anybody know the origins/meanings of the names Doutzen and Bar? Yes, Doutzen Kroes and Bar Refaeli, if anybody also likes/knows of them and was wondering.

I am fairly sure Doutzen is pronounced like dow-tzen, and Bar is just bar. The models are from the Netherlands and Israel, respectively, so their names may be just lesser-known in other parts of the world. Can anybody help, please and thank you :)

ETA: Thank you everybody! All very interesting; thanks for the doing the work for me!

Doutzen is Frisian. Friesland is a Dutch province, and that's the language spoken there =) !

*and you're right about the pronunciation by the way, that's exactly how it's supposed to be pronounced =).

Can't find anything on Doutzen, but Bar (http://babynamer.com/bar) is traditionally a guy's name in Hebrew.

Not sure about Bar, but from what I understand, Doutzen is still a rare name. I read an interview Doutzen gave in Marie Claire, and she said she was named after her grandmother--the only other person she's ever met with that name.

Bar means "son of" in Hebrew.
