Feb. 25th, 2010 11:08 amSo, we found out that baby is a girl, and I am having a difficult time with names. I can hardly get my fiance to suggest ANY names, because we have very different naming styles. I like unusual, but not TOO "out-there" names, whereas he's fine with our child being named something a little too "common" for my taste. I know it stems from having been one of 9 Elizabeths in my class, but it really sucks to have to go by "First name, last initial". The only names we seem to be mutually attracted to are:
Quinn
Nakita
Akira
Winter
What are your opinions??? Right now, I REALLY like the names Quinn and Winter, but my taste has been known to change after a couple of days of thinking about it constantly. Any particular likes/dislikes? Thanks in advance!

Date: 2010-02-25 05:12 pm (UTC)I prefer Nakita spelled Nikita. It's not a bad name, just not my style. It always brings to mind La Femme Nikita, so when I hear the name, I think, "Nikita Taylor is a teenage delinquent and heroin addict who participates in robbing the pharmacy of the parents of a fellow junkie." (Thank you, Wikipedia.)
And I guess it's considered unisex these days, but Akira always strikes me as a boy's name, because of Akira Kurosawa. It's not a terrible name, again, just not my style.

Date: 2010-02-25 06:50 pm (UTC)-I really prefer Quinn on boys, but I don't think it's horrible on girls.
-Akira is mostly a boys' name. The only girl Akira I've ever seen was a character that went around masquerading as a male... =/ I like it (on boys), but would never use it since I haven't any Japanese in me.
-Nakita... I've never thought about it before, but I think I'm going to have to agree with some of the others about it sounding like a dog's name. I prefer the Nikita spelling (though you'll probably get a lot of movie references, haha), though I don't like the name in general.

Date: 2010-02-26 02:11 pm (UTC)I think I would go with Winter. It's very unusual (more so than Quinn, though I wouldn't call Quinn common), but not in a totally bizarre way. I think it's a lovely, evocative name, and since you agree on it, you should make it a "lock" before he changes his mind!

Date: 2010-02-26 05:32 pm (UTC)It's really the only one of those that I like.
I do like "Nikita", spelled with an "i" instead of the first "a", though...
