what do you all think of the name sylvie? can it pass as a full name? or should it only be used as a nickname for sylvia? i am not a huge fan of sylvia, its a touch old lady-ish, but i could deal with it if i had to. i just very much prefer sylvie, but i am a nicknamer by nature anyway.

would love to hear your thoughts on the names themselves, and whether or not it should not be a full name!

Sylvie is the French form of Sylvia, rather than just being a nickname, so I think it can definitely stand on its own.

It's too much of a nickname to be used as a full name. I find myself wanting to throw that last little uh at the end. Sylvia is too old lady in Boca for me, but it's not bad.

I went to highschool with a Silvie.
I prefer it spelled that way.

It definitely can stand on its own. I actually HATE when people just change one letter of a name to make a nickname. :-P

I like it better than Sylvia for sure.

I think it can stand on it's own. I prefer Sylvia, but since Sylvie is a legit French variant and is not just a nickname (although the Sylvie is know is really a Sylvia), I think it can work.

I prefer Sylvie to Sylvia and think of it as a full name.

I knew a Sylvie who was *just* Sylvie, and no middle name. I think it works. :)

I love Sylvia, it's got a nice rolling sound, especially when you say it with a Spanish accent (... which is something I just do with words sometimes, so it may just be me). Sylvie sounds too short and cut off, to me. Better as a nickname, IMO.

I love Sylvie and Sylvia...I think Sylvie sounds a bit younger but both are awesome. Have nice meaning too.

I'm not a fan of either name, but I do prefer Sylvie over Sylvia. It sounds...younger.

I like them both, but I think I like Sylvia a smidge more.

But yes, I think Sylvie can stand alone, for sure.

Or short for Sylvana (f) or Sylvan (m). Means, iirc, something to do with fairy forests.

I'm biased, I'm a huge Lewis carroll addict... but I love Sylvie.

I love the name Sylvie!

It was my name in French class... we all chose French names and were called by them all year. So it has a special place in my heart haha.

Sylvie is fine by itself, but maybe you'd like Sylvène?

I love Sylvie! I was actually going to post about this very name today, but you beat me to it! Sylvie is a legit French variation of the name, so I think it stands just fine on its own. I knew a Silvia in high school, but I still prefer Sylvie/Silvie.

LOVE this name, but my husband doesn't. Like others said, it's French in origin and could stand on its own Very cute name for a little girl that will not sound ridiculous when she's a grandmother herself.
