I looove Margaret Mary.

The most used name in my family is Evan. It was my great-great-great-great grandfather's name, my great-great-great grandfather's name, one of his son's names (but not my great-great grandfather), my great-great uncle's name, my uncle's name, and my cousin's middle name.

We have several Arthurs in more recent generations of this same family branch. It was my great-grandfather's name, my uncle's middle name, my cousin's middle name, and is my cousin's son's middle name.

And of course there are plenty of Johns, Marys, Sarahs, etc. but that's to be expected.

The most used name, even though it's really only in 1/4th of my tree, is Stuart. If it isn't the last name, it's someone's first name.

It's Regula: My grandmother and a cousine from my father's side of the family as well as one of my mother's sisters. (Personally I really hate the name)
Then there's Jakob, which is my great grandfather's first name, my uncle's middle name and my cousin's middle name.

Duffy ... my middle name, my father's middle name, his father's middle name, and before that I'm assuming it was a surname.

Joseph is all over the place on both my Polish and Italian sides of the family.

My husband's family has been passing along Lauren to all the oldest boys in the family, which was cool for boys probably back when they started this tradition. But it has not been good for the current one in his 30s, since now it's almost universally a girl's name. I've gathered that the tradition is ending with him.

On my mother's side: We don't have a specific name that appears a lot, but I think Jean is the most common.

We have a lot of G names, and a lot of M names. In three direct generations with at most two children, there's Geoff(mom's brother), Grady(his only child), Georgia(me, only child), Margaret(grandma), and Marilyn(my mom).

On dad's side: My ouma and her sisters are Netty, Betty, Letty, Hetty, and my ouma is Bernadina. Why they had so many -etty names I have no idea, and why my ouma's name is so random I have no idea.

Other then that I can't think of any name trends on that side.

Otto. That's really the only repeat -- three men out of four generations, plus a couple of middle names.

In my mom's [Irish/French] family, the repeated names are:
Ann (Mom, mom's cousin, mom's aunt, mom's great aunt, and my sister's middle name)
Emily (my mom didn't know that her great aunt's name was Emily when she named my sister but it's cool)
Marguerite (my grandmother, my aunt Claire's middle, and Claire's daughter's name)
Michael (my cousin Ken's middle, and my cousin Mike)
Craig (my grandfather, uncle, and a name that Ken may use-Craig is his dad)
Edward (great uncle and 2 second cousins)

In my dad's [Italian] family, the repeated names are:
Helen (2 of my dad's cousins married Helens, my grandmother went by Helen although her name was Elena)
Elena (my grandmother, my middle name)
Louise/Louisa (great-aunt, and 3 second cousins)
Michael (too many to name, used a lot as a middle)
David (too many to name, used a lot as a middle)
Joseph (too many to name, used a lot as a middle)

My great-great grandfather was named Philip Lewis, so I have lots of relatives called Philip and Louisa. I'd never use them, but they're good solid names.

DH and I both have relatives named Elizabeth as well.

I'm not sure about my mom's side, but the most common names on my dad's side of the family are Arthur, William, James, Mary, and Margaret. In fact, my great-grandma was Margaret "Mamie," her daughter (my late grandma) was Margaret "Marge," and her daughter (my aunt) is Margaret "Peggy/Meg."

I did a family tree once and noticed that 6/8 great great grandfathers (on both sides of the tree) were Joseph and the other 2/8 were Jacob. I thought it was weird.

No other names really stand out as duplicates. There are a few doubles but we have a LOT of men in the family and they are common names like James or Thomas.

In my family, it's also Mary. That's my middle name, and my mother is Mary (Ann). Her mother is Mary Gloria, and she has sisters Mary Laverne, Mary Amanda (Molly), Mary Geraldine, and...Audrey Rita. What a change lol. The Marys all went by their middle names.

Oh also, Mary Gloria and Mary Geraldine each had a daughter named Margaret, and they were each called Peggy.

I don't know much about my family tree, but of the ancestors I do know, Ann/Annie and Benjamin tended to be pretty popular on both sides of my family.
