My coworker welcomed her first baby this morning!

Parents Niall and Lisa welcomed baby daughter Aoife Patricia. Niall is Irish (they reside in US now though). Aoife is pronounced "ee-fah"

I think it's adorable. :)

While I'd never choose that name myself, I really like that they chose something from their heritage. :]

I think they don't mesh at all, but maybe I could get used to it.

I like the sound of the first name but in the US I think she'll forever be pronouncing/spelling it for people. Being American myself, I would have never gotten "ee-fah" from "Aoife." But then again, I know nothing about Irish or Gaelic names.

This! I first looked at it and instantly thought "... Aoh-fuh?"

I love Aoife and wish it wasn't so unpronounceable in the US. It's probably my top name on the "wish I could use but can't" list. ... probably the only name on that list, actually.

Very pretty name! Too bad she'll probably go through her whole life pronouncing/spelling it for people.

I'm not too fond of the combo, but I really love that they chose Aoife! (And having grown up with a name that I always have to say out loud/ spell for people, I don't find that too big of a deal.)

I completely agree with you, on all accounts. I always have to spell my name too, and I really don't care!

I love Aoife, and Patricia is on my short list of names to use.

And yeah, people will probably mispronounce it. People manage to mispronounce even the simplest of names, though.

The problem with that is all her life everyone is going to have to be teaught how to pronounce it, unless they move back to Ireland.

Spelling and pronunciation issues aside, I really can't stand the sound of Aoife.
