Date: 2006-07-05 01:26 am (UTC)Adrienne - pretty sounds; I grew up with an Adrienne so it seems less fresh to me than I think it does to most people
Alayna - the extra 'y' in there distracts me a little; I do like other spellings of this name (Elena)
Alyna (pronounced A-LEEN-A) - it's nice enough. I have an ancestor named Aline, and I've been quite taken with that lately.
Amelia - Pretty pretty.
Anna - I'm bored with it. A few years ago I'd have preferred it to Ann(e), but now I just lump it with Grace/Emily/Isabella/blahblahblah, and I think Ann actually sounds fresher.
Audrey - Cute.
Belle - What a big name to live up to! I think I could like it on the right person, but I see names like "Beautiful" on lapdogs more often than I do on people, so I have that association.
Charlotte - Love it, love it, love it.
Elizabeth - Oh, who doesn't find Elizabeth appealing?
Felicity - It's so fun to say! I love it.
Grace - I don't think I'm as bored with any name in the world as I am with Grace.
Ivy - Adore this.
Jade - I'm tired of this being pushed as the edgier alternative to Jane. It isn't edgy any more!
Jasmine - As I've grown up a little and gotten away from the Aladdin association, it's really grown on me.
Jessica - Pretty sounds, but so overdone that I don't even appreciate this name when I hear it.
Lillian - Some days I love it, but on other days it seems a little over-the-top to me.
Lily - I like it.
Lydia - Beautiful.
Rose - Pretty enough
Sadie - Cute as can be.
Serena - I've never been very into this one. I think of fantasy novels and cartoons.
Talia - I like it.
Violet - I LOVE it.
BOYS:
Aiden - Nice. I like the actor Aidan Quinn. Overdone lately, though, isn't it?
Brent - Something I only expected to see on men of my generation. Still a bit dated. Give it time.
Caden - Doesn't appeal to me at all.
Hayden - Ditto Caden.
James - Another run-of-the-mill, stock boy names. I don't even hear this name when I say it.
Jayden - Ditto Caden/Hayden.
Shayden - Definitely not my thing. Apparently it is lots of people's thing, so what I'd point out is do you want your kid to get lost in the shuffle of -aydens in his class? There are bound to be many boy and girl classmates of his named any possible consonant tacked onto those two syllables. (Braden, Vayden, etc.)
Simon - I love this name and would probably use it.
