We all know that songs with a name in the title (usually a woman's name) are instant hits. What are your favorite names from songs/songs with names/whatever? Has a positive association with a beloved song ever changed your opinion of a name? Has a song you hated ever ruined a name for you?

----

Admittedly, I am totally into the name Vidalia because of the Sammy Kershaw song. I love cheesy puns, so when he begs "Tell me why, sweet Vidalia, you always gotta make me cry?" I just get the biggest kick. I also love that the first verse of the song is about how she got her name (parents' names are Violet and Dale) and how her parents didn't realize when they combined her name that they were dooming her to an onion-y lifetime of making men cry.

The George Strait song "Adalida" has gotten me intrigued by that name.

I actually started liking my own name (Jamie) when hearing the songs "Jamie" by Weezer and then Dashboard Confessional and "Dear Jamie" by Hellogoodbye. And well... a couple of other Jamie songs. haha.

When I heard Austin (Blake Shelton) I really feel in love with that name though.

I also LOVE Austin because of the song. That will probably be our boy's name, as my hubby loves it too.

I was named after a song- Melissa by the Allman Brothers.

I love the song Romeo & Juliet by Dire Straits, since Juliet is my daughter's name.

My sister was also named after a song- Amanda by Boston.

My mom wasn't named after the Weezer song Susanne, but it's a song I like :)

Names I like from songs are some of the more typical ones: Layla (Eric Clapton) Jamie (Weezer) and Jonas (Weezer.)

Cecilia, by Simon and Garfunkel, is probably the big one for me. It's just such a happy song for me, something I sing along to loudly every chance I get.

I have memories of jumping on the bed with my sister singing along to this song. I can only imagine how appalled my mother must have been to have her preschoolers singing about afternoon delight... :-O

(In all seriousness, I am pretty sure we only knew the words to the chorus.)

I was named after the Beatles song "Michelle," like many other children of Baby Boomers. I actually go through periods of extreme hatred for that song, mostly due to people calling on me in class during middle school by singing it and then asking me if I'd ever heard the song. Now, I occasionally do enjoy listening to it. I do LOVE being named after a song though, and I also like the Guns n Roses song "My Michelle," even though I wasn't actually named for it.

If I ever had twin girls, I would name them Lily and Luna after "Lily (my one and only)" and "Luna" by the Smashing Pumpkins. Other song names I LOVE:

"Letters to Elise" by the Cure
"Charlotte Sometimes" by the Cure
"Sweet Adeline" by Elliott Smith
"Clementime" by Elliott Smith
"Aurora" by the Foo Fighters
"Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles
"Lilian" by Depeche Mode

My name is also Michelle and I hate the Beatles song. I hate it when people sing it to me. I also like the Guns 'n Roses song "My Michelle".

Did you ever hear the song "Season's in the Sun" by Terry Jacks? There is verse in there that starts off with "Goodbye Michelle my little one"...My aunt used to tell me that song was made for me. I still like it to this day.
