It's supposed to be Michael. Yeah, I know. That's what happens when people with absolutely no knowledge of English try to give their kids' names a foreign flavor.
That's because you live in an English-speaking country (or speaks English) and therefore know the correct spelling of Michael. The guys who give kids these atrocious names are people who have only heard the name (in a movie, maybe) and, having no knowledge of the language and the sounds, try to write the name as they hear it. Which results, of course, in a complete FAIL.
REALLY? Huh. I'm just confused as to how they mixed up the letters L and N at the end. What country are they originally from? I'm guessing it's one that uses a different alphabet, like Greek, Cyrillic, etc.
It's like that: "Mi" becomes "Mai". It's the same process that turns Diana into Daiana, for example. If you write Diana, it's going to be pronounced like Deanna.
Eventually, "Mai" becomes "May" because obviously, if it's English there's got to be a Y. "chael" becomes "cou", "cow", and sometimes "con"; I don't know why, must be because the sound is alike. You find Maico, Maicow, Maicon, by the dozens here. They're all supposed to be Michael.
Ah, ok. Hmm, that's really interesting. I do like Michael much better than Macon or Mason, but you're right, that spelling...could be much better. Lol.
