our last name is two syllables and starts with S (sounds kind of like spider, but not) and i happen to be a fan of alliteration, so just for fun, looking to brainstorm S names. here is what we have on our list so far...

sophie/sofia
sylvia/sylvie
stella
susannah
summer
cecelia
(guess i should say that the S sound is fine too, obviously)

simon

(obviously we need help with the boys names)

names that have already been ruled for one reason or another...

samuel (bad connotations)
samantha (husbands sisters name)
sarah (best friends daughter)
saoirse (cousins daughter)
seamus (cousins son)
sadie (just hate it)
scout (cousins son)
seraphina (hate it)
steven (bad connotations)
stephanie (hate it)

looking for more suggestions! what are your favorite S names? i know its different for everyone, but just wondering what your thoughts are on alliteration? thanks in advance!

Scarlett for a girl? and I can't really think of any boy names that start with S, though, except Sterling (which I love).

I know that it doesn't start with an S, but you said that the S sound was fine too, so what about Celeste?

Saskia

I have no problem with alliteration, in most cases it works well.

I have a similar last name and we're actually trying to avoid alliteration, but the names I would have liked otherwise were Seth for a boy and Sage or Stella for a girl.

I personally really like Selene. It means "moon". Of course, you could also go with Celine, but I just don't like that spelling for myriad reasons.

I don't think I would do alliteration unless it was a name I absolutely loved. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but it can come off kind of cutesy or forced a lot of the time. (Although I don't think I worry about this as much with you, because I know you have pretty good taste.) It's not something I would try to shoot for, but I don't think it's something to be avoided either.

ANYWAY! The only male S name I like that you haven't addressed is Sidney.

For girls: Sage (could also go for a boy, I just prefer it for girls)
Sasha
Scarlett (I'm pretty sure it's not your style though)
Skye (also NYS?)
Sophie
Summer
