It's terrible. It's not cute at all, and it looks like you're trying too hard. There's nothing wrong with Emily. "But everyone else in her class will be named Emily." And? Changing the spelling to some bastardized version doesn't change the way the name is pronounced, so it will still sound the same.
I don't really see the point of spelling it like that unless you're going to split it into a first and middle name: Emma Leigh. But if you're going to use both names all the time, it makes sense to spell it Emily.
So sorry people in the world have different tastes. Emily is not like Caitlin, where Caitlin has a common "original" spelling, but Katelyn is the more common spelling. Emmaleigh would absolutely be out of place.
Yeah, I think it's kind of ridiculous. I know Emily is popular and that's a consideration, but.... If you're pronouncing it the same as Emily anyway, then everyone saying it isn't going to think it's somehow different from Emily.
not ridiculous necessarily, but definitely bleh and kinda trashy. Of course I also don't really like Emily either. The only variation I do like is Emilie.
I hate it, and I also don't pronounce it the same as Emily (more like "Emma Leigh"). I really don't mean this to sound that harsh, I just can't like it as name. Emily is pretty (though quite boring) and this name is just... wrong.
I just don't really get it. Most people aren't going to read her name, just say it - so at the end of the day, she's still just another Emily as far as everyone is concerned. Emily is very pretty (I wouldn't use it as a first name because of how popular it is, but I also wouldn't use Emilie or Emmalee or Emmaleigh either because they all sound the same). If you like the name, I'd just go with the original spelling.
When you spell it Emmaleigh, I personally want to put more emphasis on the Leigh-part, so it sounds like Emma LEIGH. Emily is a really pretty name though. Why not just go with that? =)
As an Emily, this spelling really makes me cringe. I think if you like the name, then use it and just spell it correctly. If you don't, your daughter will have to constantly correct people on the spelling, but yet since it sounds the same she'll still be "Emily R." when all is said and done.
I don't think it's ridiculous, just because I've seen it so many times. But it is a bit silly. It looks like someone's taking Emily and trying to make it 'different' and 'creative'. But... it's still Emily. I think if a person is going to use a popular name, they should just use it, and not spell it weirdly. The only thing they'll achieve by that is giving the kid a name that everyone will always spell wrong. Kind of a pain.
Glad everyone else said the same thought I had. I am liking Emily now, and someone said if I were to use Emily, I should make it more creative. The only other way I could think to spell it was that way, and it just didn't look right. Wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy, lol.
Those creative types...aren't so creative. If the name is pronounced the same, butchering the spelling is only going to make life hard on the kid. There's no other purpose to creative spellings. Stick with your gut and ignore those so-called creatives :)
yes, it is too ridiculous. i hate these names because its like the parents couldnt decide if they wanted to name the child emily or emma, so they chose... BOTH! not cool.
Too many letters...just stick with Emily! If you want to be creative, then actually give her a unique, different name--not a "unique" spelling of a common name. Well, that's my thought, anyway.
