I like The name Kessie but it means chubby baby in Ghanese*. Actually I think I like it even more because of the meaning but I would never do that to my child. Would you give your child a name you really liked even though it meant "Chubby Baby".

*It's also a variant of the Hebrew name Kezia ("Cassia Tree").

Um... babies are supposed to be chubby. I don't like the name Kessie in particular, but the meaning 'chubby baby' wouldn't put me off a name I really loved.

I think Molly means "bitter" and I think it's really cute other than the meaning
and I liked Mallory- but ...I can't remember exactly- I think it means "bad luck" or something like that

But seriously, what are the chances that she's going to grow up to speak Ghanese? The only way she'll know it means fattie is if you tell her. And even if she finds out somehow you can always say "oops I didn't know". The Ghanese meaning of Kessie isn't exactly common knowledge anywhere outside of Ghana.

Well, baby name books are notoriously inaccurate. But if you're really concerned that your daughter will somehow find out that her name means 'chubby baby' in an African language, AND that she'll be upset about it, don't use the name.

I'm not going to to use it (as I already stated). I'm not even pregnant this was just to start a discussion about whether or not you (general you) would use a name that meant "chubby baby".

I wouldn't care if it meant chubby baby. Babies are supposed to be chubby and cute that way! And no one would know. And it is cute, it's not like you're gonna go around calling her fatty because of it or anything. There are a lot worse meanings out there.

I love the name Kessie and one of my nicknames is Kessica (for Jessica)
Like other people said, "chubby baby" is not a bad meaning at all, it resonates prosperity and peacefulness :)
Besides, I don't know if it's backed up by medical literature or not, but from what I've seen, chubby babies often develop into slim adults and viceversa!

If it meant something like "diarrhea" or "ugly face," yeah, I would probably avoid it. But chubby baby? All babies are chubby, unless they're starving. So really it just means healthy baby! I think it's cute.

I think the meaning does matter more because Kessie is such an unusual name. No one ever wonders what John or Hannah mean because they're so familiar. Who cares that Leah means "weary" or that Brendan means "stinking hair"? It's not nearly as relevant to their lives as the style, sound, and connotations of the name. With a more unusual name, though, people are going to be a lot more likely to ask what it means, because it doesn't already have a cultural meaning for them. That's my take on it, anyway.

If our baby were going to be familiar at all with that language, then no, I wouldn't. If they aren't, then it doesn't matter to me.

I knew a little boy named Tyler and his mom always called him TyTy. I forget which language it was in, but my friend said that means "vagina." The mom didn't know, the kid didn't know, life went on.

my son`s nn is Noori but my brother tells me it means "dull" in Estonian. He wont call him by his nn.

Yup, I'd still name my child said name though it means "chubby baby." No one wants a baby bird, everyone hopes for a chubby bunny :).
