Date: 2010-01-12 11:43 pm (UTC)I like:
Tessa Mae
Maya
Ivy
Carly is okay, but I think Maya or Ivy is likely to "grow up" better. They look better on a resume or business card, you know? But Carly isn't awful.
Most of your boy names are AWESOME. Thatcher, Dean, Asher, Gavin, Elijah, Tobin, Tobias, Declan, and even Carlisle are great. Best ones: Thatcher Dean, Gavin Elijah, Asher Carlisle, Tobias Dean.
With Kanyon...I always say: if it's in the dictionary, spell it the way it's spelled in the dictionary. Same with names like Lily, Rose, Violet, etc. If they're words, don't mess with the spelling because NO ONE is going to spell it right and it really doesn't make it more unique or anything: when you say it out loud, people are still calling him Canyon. So why spell it Kanyon? As a middle name, I think Canyon is fine.
I'd stick to the more conventional but still unique names like Thatcher or Ivy for first names and leave names like Levi and Tobin for girls, Sunshine, Canyon/Kanyon, Carlisle, Bodhi, etc. as middle names.

Date: 2010-01-12 11:49 pm (UTC)And thanks for the compliment; I feel like I have a strong stock of boy names to choose from but I am having a hard time finding girl names that aren't over-the-top frilly/feminine or trendy.

Date: 2010-01-13 12:48 am (UTC)I totally understand the girl name thing. I have 585959576696965 boy names I love and would consider using, but only about four girl names I like.
You could use something feminine that has a boy name as a nickname. For example: Josephine or Jocelyn, nn Joey; Charlotte nn Charlie; Georgia nn George; Louisa nn Lou; etc. That way she's got a couple different options. I personally really like this option because I'm pretty much as far from frilly as a girl can get and have always wanted a name with a nickname that works for me -- for example, Alexandra/Alex -- so I could more easily genderbend. However. There are a lot of girls for whom this would NOT be a goal, and I have a hard time seeing a frilly ballerina princess pulling off a name like Tobin or Levi. And you never know what your kid is going to be like.
Some other ideas:
Eden
Evelyn/Eve (or just Eve)
Lena

Sadie
Beth
Nell
Mae

Kate/Cate

Allison/Allie
Maeve
Just some ideas for names that aren't super over the top frilly the way names like Amelia or Julianna or something is, you know? Hopefully you find something you like :)

Date: 2010-01-12 11:52 pm (UTC)I LOVE the name Tessa!
Still, Ivy, Maya, and Carly (in that order) also meet with my personal approval.

Date: 2010-01-13 12:15 am (UTC)As for the boys, I think Tobin Asher and Tobias Dean are the best (I like the latter). Actually, most of the boys names are okay/good; the only one I dislike is Kanyon/Canyon.

Maya Carlisle - I adore the name Maya. It's so simple and classic but it's also very beautiful.
Carly Sunshine - I really love this but I think it's too fun. Carly sounds more like a nickname than a given name and Sunshine... is well, Sunshine(it's on my list too by the way). I think they'd be fine separate but together... I don't know.
Thatcher Dean
Gavin Carlisle
Gavin Elijah
Gavin Bodhi

Tobin sounds more masculine to me.
I don't really like Ivy because it makes me think of poision Ivy, I guess because I had a friend in junior high that was called that because her name is Ivy.
Levi I don't like anyway... I just think of jeans. But definitely not for a girl's name.
I really like the name Asher but not too fond of anything you have it paired with. Perhaps Asher Matthew? Gavin Asher?
Thatcher Carlisle I almost start to like but then it seems too long and too... constant. I don't know if that makes sense. They are both pretty nice names apart though.
I love the name Matthew but think it works best as a middle name. But I don't like Declan at all.

Date: 2010-01-13 01:58 am (UTC)Carly Sunshine is too casual. Both, I think, need a solid name to balance it out. I think of baby names in their adult context, so the only professions I can picture on a Carly Sunshine are those of art teacher, preschool aide, or something similarly artsy and/or low-key. It's hard to be taken seriously in most professions when one doesn't have a name to back it up with, and I don't think it's fair to a child to name her Carly Sunshine when she's aiming to be CEO of a Fortune-500 company. Better to name her Caroline and have her be able to fall back on Carly should she choose not to be so ambitious.
Tessa Mae is really nice! It's my favorite off of the list.
