How horrible does Asher Sheffield sound? I'm due in June with my 3rd baby and have been told that the baby is probably a boy. Asher is the only boy name that I really love. I've liked it since high school, long before I knew my husband's last name would also have the "sh" sound in it. :(

it doesn't sound terrible to me, but that's because i say it as "ASH-er shef-FIELD," so only one of the SH sounds is emphasized.

i nixed the name that i've been in love with since elem. school because my hubs wasnt 100% on it :/ but the name we picked instead is also really nice!

I am almost definitely using Asher, it's one of my favorites for a boy or a girl [though I'd be using it for a boy], and I would suggest trying on Archer as an alternative if you don't like the way the two names go together. Archer Sheffield is similar but no repeated "sh" sound. But, for the record, Asher Sheffield doesn't sound weird to me in the first place.

I think Asher Sheffield sounds fine. If you're going to use Ash as a nickname I might think about it more, because Ash Sheffield is a bit stilted. Not horribly so, though. I like Archer Sheffield too, as a previous poster suggested.

We have a similar issue. I love the name Henry but my husband's last name is Reece, so a future boy would be Henry Reece...most people don't seem to think it's a problem but the repeated "ree" sound in the middle makes me a little meh on the combination. In fact, my first name ends in -ry and that's part of the reason why I didn't take my husband's last name when we got married!

I love Henry as well but don't like the alliteration in Henry Harrington so it's out for us :(

I think Asher Sheffield sounds good. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] hwar though: Ash Sheffield sounds a little awkward.

Please tell me your husband's first name is Gary!

I do like Asher, but it's a bit of a mouthful, with the last name.

I like it--the 'sh' sounds actually don't seem all that repetitive, and Asher is one of my favorite names right now! Go for it!

I don't think it's too bad. In fact, I didn't even really pay attention to the double "sh" until you pointed it out!

LOVE Asher. Sounds okay to me (I've heard a LOT worse). Your predicament sounds like me. I'd love to name a son Ryder, a name I've loved forever. But, alas, my husband's last name is Raeder. Ryder Raeder is not good lol.

Hehe my first thought was the Nanny with Sheffield. dunno if you know the show but one of the main characters has that last name too. Before you mentioned the double sh sound, like the other commenter(s) I didn't really notice it when I first read it. :)
