Jan. 11th, 2010 06:46 pmHow do you feel about these names:
For a girl:
Sunnie Mae
Myah Sunshine
Sunnie Myah
For a boy:
Canyon Asher
Asher Kael
A lot of our friends are having babies right now, so we are going for charming and different without being hard for others to embrace. I guess my main concern is that Sunnie and Canyon are too uncommon and might wreak havoc on my kiddos when they get older. Opinions?

Date: 2010-01-12 12:58 am (UTC)I think Lyric can be cute without being over the top, it's similar to Melody, certainly not everyone's bag of chips but I think we can all agree that there is SO much worse out there.
Why not do Lyric MN and then your partner can sing to her "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine" I sing that to both my kids. A nickname doesn't have to be a play off their name or anything like that. Your partner can call her whatever she wants, but please give a potential daughter a usable name she can grow with!

Date: 2010-01-12 12:53 am (UTC)But, your girl names are just horrible, sorry.
Myah...why the H? Leave it off and it's a beautiful name, but pair it with Sunshine? Is it the 60's already? And it's a total play on words "my sunshine" barf. Child...not dog/doll/sims character. Sunnie...I knew a male Sonny, but it was also just his nickname, even if he got it because it was his grandfather's name. But stick it on a girl and spell it Sunnie and, god awful. Nickname, cute, full name, horrible. Guarantee you as soon as she's old enough for an opinion she'd go by Mae or Myah

Date: 2010-01-12 01:37 am (UTC)Are you opposed to two middle names? If you can throw something in the middle of Mya and Sunshine it breaks the play on words which is the only real problem with Mya Sunshine. Something simple. Like Mya Claire Sunshine. Mya Eve Sunshine. Sue, Lynn...

Date: 2010-01-12 12:57 am (UTC)They make me want to read them SOO-nee and Mee-AH.
Maya / Mya Sunshine or Sunny Mae / Mya / Maya could work. Although I wouldn't agree with using Sunny as for either first or middle because it's a nickname to me.
Canyon at least is spelled properly, I guess? But I don't understand the appeal.
Kael sounds like "kale", the vegetable.
I'm neutral to Asher.

Date: 2010-01-12 12:59 am (UTC)Again, I would keep Canyon as the middle name. Asher is really lovely though.

Date: 2010-01-12 01:08 am (UTC)Sunnie Mae, Myah Sunshine and Sunnie Myah are all awful, sorry. If you want to use Sunshine, I would say putting it in the middle name spot would be more appealing. I like Maya spelled this way, but not Myah. I like Mae, and think it's a great middle name.
Also, you could use a first name that wasn't Sunnie or Sunshine and still use Sunnie as a nickname. It could work for Susannah or a few others.

Date: 2010-01-12 01:17 am (UTC)I also love Mae and would say use that as a first name before ANY of the ones you have up there. Myah would be okay spelled Maya, or even Mya, for the same pronunciation but Myah is awful. Sunnie is horrid.
Canyon is similarly awful, but still beats the pants off of Sunnie.

Date: 2010-01-12 01:46 am (UTC)Amelia Sunshine
Eleanor Sunshine
Cadence Sunny
Michaela/Mikayla Sunshine
Lorelei Sunshine
Melinda Sunny
For the most part whether I picked Sunny or Sunshine would depend on how the names would flow with the last name. I'm big on flowing, but if you aren't, then go with whichever of Sunny/Sunshine the SO (and ideally you as well) prefers. Good luck with the search!

Date: 2010-01-12 01:51 am (UTC)And I prefer Mya or Maya — or even Maia. Actually, Maia is my favorite, followed by Maya, then Mya. The H just seems superfluous.
I prefer both Canyon and Asher to Kael, in either order. Canyon Asher or Asher Canyon... yep, fine. And better than Kael!

Date: 2010-01-12 02:38 am (UTC)I love the word superfluous. My husband likes it too, but thinks it is pronounced super-flawless, which makes no sense and drives me insane.

Date: 2010-01-12 02:24 am (UTC)Mae is lovley and Asher is ok, but a bit trendy.
Some ideas for sun names:
Sunniva (Means gift of the sun!) Sunniva Mae - perfect!
Allison
Sunday
Sonja
Soleil
Soledad (Sol means sun)
Marisol
I do not like Myah especially the Myah Sunshine combo. It sounds like a bad joke. Kael reminds me of Superman. Kale or Cale is ok, but NMS.

Date: 2010-01-12 03:36 am (UTC)I think Sunshine is workable as a middle name. Honestly, how often do people use them anyway. Kinda like Toby Maguire's daughter, Ruby Sweetheart. Ruby Sunshine ftw lol! I'm not real big on phonetic spellings so Myah doesn't float my boat. All I see is M Yah! Miah, Mya, Maya, etc would be my preference.
I <3 Asher

Date: 2010-01-12 09:11 am (UTC)My favourite of your girls names is Myah Sunshine. I like Myah a lot, but I do think the spelling may make it difficult at times, then again, in comparison with aydreyeon & the like it's really not that bad. I think that Sunnie/Sunshine may be a little too "charming and different" to use as first names, especially considering that Sonny is a boy name (at least it is here in England), but I see no problem in using them as middle names. In fact, I think it's a cute middle name and afterall, if the child hates it that much she doesn't have to tell anyone.

Date: 2010-01-12 09:28 am (UTC)Calling anyone who is going to reach 5 years old or over 4 Sunnie or Sunshine is just asking for them to become a cranky misery-guts in pure self-defence...

Date: 2010-01-12 10:40 am (UTC)Sunnie: Is a nickname to me and I prefer it spelled Sunny. I don't think this ages well as an actual name. It's much better than Sunshine though, which is out there and just makes me think of hippies and the Care Bear.
Myah- get rid of the "h."
Canyon- Awful, imo.
