What do you think about Lavinia?

It always makes me think of the bratty girl from A Little Princess who's a total bitch to the main character. Pushing that association aside, it's a little too old ladyish for my taste.

Awww...I work in a nursing home, and my favorite resident EVER (she has passed away) was named Levinia. I love it because it reminds me of her. Association aside, I still like it because I love old fashioned names!

oh and I like it spelled either way- Lavinia or Levinia. I have met people with both spellings and they pronounced it the same way.

Levinia is not legit, though.

Love it...except for two things:

- Can't get past the horrible fate of the character Lavinia in Titus Andronicus.

- I can't help but think it would be shortened to Lav or something similar, which is very unfortunate.

we're on the same thought pattern

Yeah, that's what holds me back about this name too.

Lav is a problem for me too.

Love it... but it will forever remind me of Lavinia from Titus Andronicus and well... as tends to happen in Shakespearean tragedies she has a rather unhappy time here on earth... she is forced to marry, then she escapes that marriage and is later raped and has her tongue and hands cut off by Chiron and Demetrius... oh and she dies by willingly having her father kill her.

Luckily! It's one of those more 'obscure' Shakespearean plays and you probably will only get a few freaks like me that have read it more than twice =P

I quite like it, but then I tend to like most overtly Roman names.

Hate it. It sounds ridiculously old, I can't picture it on anybody under the age of...I'll say 64. Plus, I think it looks ugly, and sounds ugly, so there is just nothing good about it to me, except that I had a nice Lavinia cut my hair when I was a kid.

i loved the name from the little princess and picked in in latin class as my name. i was disappointed to realize the latin (greek?) pronunciation is la-win-ia.

It was my Latin name too, but I like the Latin pronunciation better. =D

I took it in college by choice. Didn't even need to take another language at that point - I just wanted to. =D

I like it, but it reminds me of this little girl I know who's had a miserable life so far. :( She's almost 2 and is being adopted because her mom would put her aside for drugs and whatnot.
So yeah, besides the association, it's a lovely name!

I don't like it; it sounds...old. I can't really imagine it on a child. =/

Oooh, nice. It has a lovely sound, and it's the perfect kind of old-fashioned. It's also very unusual, unlike others of that style-- Emma and Amelia come to mind--but not freakishly weird by any means. I think it's marvelous.
