Do people pronounce it like "jhon-vee-ev"? I've never heard that.

I've always liked Genevieve, and I like the idea of using the end of the name ofr the nickname, rather than the "jen" part.

i like the american pronunciation of genevieve, but i don't like how it sounds with colleen. (the E's and L/V's all run together when i say it.)

I dislike Genevieve in the english pronunciation.
Evie for a nickname is clever either way, but I only like it if it's Jen-ev-ee-EV, nickname EV-ee.

The French pronunciation would be a cross between Jen-ev-ee-EV and Jen-vee-EV, depending on accents and how fast your're pronouncing it.
(The Jen part is the hardest to reproduce by writing, with a closed en/un sound and a french j)

Forgot to add that it's not Jean-vee-EV (Jean like the french form of John) like some people mistakenly think, reading "en" as a diphthong. It splits here, with the ge-ne syllables.

I've heard it as Jun-VEEV and Jun-uh-VEEV(french j)

hmmm been reading the comments and I tend to diphthong it but mostly when speaking fast, kind of like when I am saying je ne sais pas or something with a negation that the ne gets contracted as you speak faster but I do say Je-neh-vee-EV when taking my time to pronounce right, if that makes any sense.

I've always said it Gin Eh Vee V. But the G sounds more like the J on the French pronunciation of Jean than a blunt G soundn

I pronounce it Jen-uh-vee'-ev. I do like Jen'-uh-veev, though.

I like Genevieve, and Evie is a cute nickname. But Colleen doesn't sound that great with it.

I love it, especially with Evie as a nickname. I also like the nickname Ginny. A friend from high school was named this and went by Jenny. However, I like Evie best :)

I used to dislike it but it's grown on me, to the point where I actually really like it now. I think Genevieve Colleen sounds really good. It's pretty, but not over the top, and I do like the nickname Evie a lot.

I like Genvieve but only pronounced the French way because the way i see others are saying they pronounce it just sounds silly to me. This is also because I speak French though so I am all 'huh?'

I really like Colleen though =)

There are a lot of names I don't prefer pronounced the French way, but Genevieve has always been one that I strongly prefer the French pronunciation of. I love this name, but worry if it'd seem weird having another child with a French name that is pronounced 'properly'. :)

I'm not personally a fan of nicknames that are so totally different from the original name. It's like, why pick out this beautiful, distinctive name and then call her something else entirely? But that's me. Genevieve is certainly beautiful and distinctive. I approve it a hundred percent. And Evie is adorable, more user-friendly than Genevieve, I guess. Colleen is fine, as a middle-- I think maybe I remember you, Colleen is after your mother? I have a serious soft spot for family names. So overall I approve of your choice.

I am all about middle names being family names, and because I know a lovely girl named Colleen I like it.

Genevieve is great, especially the more I say it. And I like Evie too.

I like Genevieve a lot! And Evie is such a cute nickname for it. :D (Though I was a huge Pokemon fan growing up, so that might be part of why I like it so much.)

Genevieve Colleen is a very pretty, solid choice. I think it's great!

Love the combo! Both Genevieve and Colleen are beautiful names, and together they're really pretty. Also, Evie as a nickname is very original. I love Evie as well, but as a nickname for Eva, which is my number one name at the moment.

I love Genevieve.

I know Colleen is a family name for you (right?) and I think it sounds nice enough with Genevieve.

As a child/pre-teen, I used to really love this name, but now I'm mostly nuetral (I've seen it around a lot since then, so it's been slipping down the list).

I like the English pronunciation, and am kind of surprised to find I hate the French [pronunciation]. As far as nicknames goes, Evie is okay (much better than Jen/Jenny, which I absolutely hate).

I don't like the name Colleen, but it passes since it's after your mother. ;)

I think Genevieve is beautiful! It's very sweet and elegant and it's a beautiful deep green color with just a little bit of purple. Very neat. I think Evie is an adorable nn too! Genevieve Colleen is very nice. I really like the French pronunciation-- zhon-vee-EV is so elegant. But I like the English pronunciation just fine too.

My fiancé and I also agreed strongly on this name. We both love it, and if we ever have a daughter, we plan to use it on her.

It sounds beautiful with Colleen.

Heh, oh, yeah, and we intend to use the nickname Evie, too.

I like the way the name looks, but this thread is a prime example of why I would not use it- So many issues with pronounciation :(
That said- I love Evie! Also- I know people named Eve, Evangeline, and Evelyn who are nicknamed Evie.
For what it's worth, I also know a woman named Evie. Just Evie. I think it's alright on it's own, too.

Genevieve (nn Eve or Evie) will be our first daughter's name so I definitely love it.

It was my grandmother's name. Her middle name will be Renee after my mom.
