How do imagine someone called Leila to look? My SO and I were thinking about calling one of our twins (we don't know the sexes yet) this, but last night he started having second thoughts.

If its boys one will definately be called Lewis Jonathan. Or if girls, one will almost definately be Madeleine Sophie. WDYT?

Other first names we've considered:
Harvey
James
Theo/Theodore (love the nn, but not sold on the full name)
Oliver
Leila (but wouldn't use if we use Lewis)
Lucy (same as above)
Amelia
Alice
Grace

We're not set on any of these names, so if you can suggest any others we'd be extremely grateful!

Also, we have the middle names Savannah and Lily (to honor the grandmothers) but don't like them with any of the first names we've thought about, so would love suggestions that would work as first names with these middles.

EDIT: so my question makes more sence, to cross out two names we're no longer considering and to add a name. :)

EDIT 2: If it makes a difference, the last name sounds like Harriet and begins with an A

I have a friend called Leila (prn. Lie-la) who is pretty and funny with long hair :)

If you're pronouncing it Lay-la, I'd say that someone with that name would look kind of exotic with dark hair and big eyes.

i picture leila with long dark hair, not sure why. but the only way it makes sense for me to pronounce it is "lye-lah", and i know i am in the minority here with that, so take it with a grain of salt.

i love madeleine sophie, and lily too. madeleine has left our list because of the onslaught of madisons in the world, so too many little girls being called "maddie" and i really do hate madison that much.

not really a fan of savannah. its ok, i used to like it, but it seems to have become more and more trashy recently. lewis is alright. its a different choice from the classics.

i really love the rest of the names on your list too, with the exception of harvey. i know a lot of people are mentioning it these days, i just dont see the appeal. you cant go wrong with any of your names, really.

PS: yay twins! :)

I dislike Leila and all variants, there's just too much confusion on pronunciation. I personally immagine a fragile, petite woman, sweet and dreamy, not very assertive.

I love Savannah!! And I like Madeleine Sophie a lot!
I also love Alice and I like Grace, but more as a first name.
My suggestions are
Savannah Grace and Lucy Alice.

I knew a beautiful Leila (half-middle eastern) who had dark curly hair, olive skin and those crystal clear blue eyes- but only as a child
-----------
now, we named my daughter Laila- went for spelling it with an A

I know it's off your list now, but, wow, most people seem to have the same thought of a Leila, long dark curly hair, kind of mysterious.

I have an Amelia and I think she fits her name very well, big dark eyes, blonde curly hair, light skin (which is a big thing considering I'm half black!), afraid of nothing and spunky...that's a good word. She fears nothing, and it reminds me of Amelia Earhart, obviously she didn't have many fears and was quite independent. So my vote is for Amelia as your second girl:) We have Amelia Rose Marie, I'd say Amelia Grace to take from your list. For a boy I think Oliver would sound cute with Lewis.

My name is Savanah, so it's hard for me to see it as a middle name and because it's so long and has so many syllables I'm not sure it would work with many names, it'd have to be something short and blunt, the type of name that looks like it can't stand up on it's own if that makes sense. And Lillian might be easier to use as a middle name, like Grace Lillian works but Grace Lily not as much.

My mother's name is Leila Margaret. pn: 'Lee-eye-lah' and basicly means 'black pearl' and she had (I say had because she's in her seventies now) dark hair and brown eyes. All my life I had to correct people on how to pronounce her name... but I always thought it fit her. Most people call her Le though, like my cousins, they call her Auntie Le.

I very much like the names on your list, especially James, Theo, Amelia, Lily and Grace. I have a niece named Lily Fay and one of my daughters middle name is Grace after my grandmother so obviously I very much like those. lol.

I think Leila(if pronounced Lee-la) would sound beautiful with Madeleine. I like that pronouncation and imagine it as being very close to Caitlin or Cecilia- someone with fair skin, blonde hair and bright eyes. Layla I imagine as darker curly hair- possibly red hair and dark eyes.

I really like Lewis Jonathan but it's not really my style. Lewis Jonathan would sound lovely with Henry James.

I like the sound of Madeline Sophia and Amelia Grace together.
