So re-watching the movie by the same name has rekindled my love for Matilda: thoughts on this name? Nicknames/middles? The fairy princess inside of me likes Tilly, but I think Mattie would be a more acceptable modernization. For middles, I like J names like Juliet and Jane, but open to all suggestions. =)

(Also, hi to those who remember me. Yes, I am still around!)

It's nice enough. I think Tilly is cute.

I really love Matilda (top of my list at the moment), and Mat/Mattie and Tilly are both super cute nicknames. I've heard people use Tilda too but I don't like it as much because it sounds too much like "~" (tilde). I think Tilly is probably what I'd use for a childhood nickname. Jane is my daughter's name so I'm partial there. I think Matilda Jane sounds great.

Oh, I love Matilda! I rather like Claire as a middle name actually. But Matilda Jane is good too. Not sure what else.

I like Matilda Jane a lot, but not Matilda Juliet (those two names just seem like different "styles" to me for some reason).

I love Matilda! Tilly sounds like a little old lady to me, but Mattie is pretty cute, especially spelling it that way. I actually would probably go with Millie, though.

i like it but the idea of mattie is enough to ruin it for me, honestly.

i used to love madeline, but there are so many maddies now (with all the madisons, a name i absolutely HATE) that i would never use it. same for matilda. so, i would use tilly, i think its wonderful. :)

I love Matilda/Mathilda/Mathilde
I would use the nickname Millie

Both Matilda Jane and Matilda Juliet are nice.
If I were to use it I would do Matilda Simone

Tilly is adorable. But I hate Matilda. I like the sound of Matilda Jade.

I think it would be a shame to use Mattie as a nn when there are so many Maddies around. Tilly is cute, and older sounding nicknames are coming back into vogue.

Matilda June
Matilda Jeanine
Matilda Joanna
Matilda Jonquil
Matilda Joy
Matilda Frances
Matilda Eugenie
Matilda Faye
Matilda Roisin
Matilda Tamsin
Matilda Emily

I think Matilda Jane is just clunky enough to be adorable. As far as Mattie vs. Tilly, I like them both. Mattie is probably the more socially acceptable one... but then again, do you want her to be one of the crowd of Mattie/Maddie/Maddys?

Of course, the truth is, kids make their own nicknames. If she doesn't, her friends will, and if they don't, her enemies will. Your Tilly may wind up Mattie, or Tildy, or MJ, or Buggy Bat whether you (or she) like it or not.
