i didn't know this for a long time, and just figured it out...
my friend Jessi and Justins daughters name is Kelly, and she's 4 so when i met them she was 3, i was like well that name seems kinda out dated, like all the kellys i know are like 40+, so i always found it odd, but its not a bad name so i just went with it.
well then i found out that Kelly is Jessi's maiden name. and their daughters middle name is Dee which is Jessi's middle name.

so how do you guys feel about using the mothers maiden name as a childs first name?? i think its cute.

I like it. My mother's last name is Porter, and I have often considered using that on a son.

If it's a name that works -- like Kelly, Harrison, Porter, etc. -- I think that's fine and kind of cool. But there are certain last names that just shouldn't be first names.

I like it if the name works as a first name.

My maiden name is Nicholson but my husband took my name when we married so I don't think Nicholson Nicholson would be any good! ;)

I actually always wanted to use Nikolai for a son after Nicholson but it isn't going to work now either!

Your husband took your last name? That is the coolest thing I have heard in a very long time.

I wouldn't mind it if my last name was something that was suitable for a kid, ahaha. (I say my last name since my mom's maiden name is the same as my last name. my last name was changed when I was three after my parents got divorced and he wanted nothing to do with us.)

That's how we came up with Sparrow as a middle name below on the twin post. My maiden name is Sparacino and all of the men in my family are called Sparrow.

I knew a guy in grade school whose mother used her maiden name as his first name. The only weird thing was, she officially went by both surnames, so she was Minnie Scott Lastname and her son was just Scott Lastname. A little confusing when printed.

I think it is cute if the name works. My mother's maiden name is my last name, but it would never work as suitable first or even middle name for a child.

I won't be naming any of my kids Buchanan.

But I guess it's not bad if your last name isn't so....last namey.

Yeah, same here. I can't imagine naming a baby Blankenship.

Yeah. Mine would be Westendorf. Ah...no thanks.

Yup... that and i wouldn't change my last name. Though, either way, naming my kid Valbuena would not be nice of me.

I think it's a cute idea if it works. Incidentally, my name is Kellie, and I'm 24 (25 in 3 weeks). My maiden name is Forrest, and I would consider it for a son except I already have a cousin Forrest.

If it doesn't make a bizarre first name, it's a nice thought. I won't be doing it, though, as my last name's Coin.

Along with everyone else...only if it actually works.

My maiden name is Givens, my mom is Studebaker, my grandma is Morey, and my MIL is Hildebrandt. None are name worthy!

I would use my moms maiden name, Findlay. Though Id consider spelling it Finley. my husband and I plan to use his mothers maiden name as a middle name for one of our sons (should we have More than 1)

Actually my husband and I have talked about this. My maiden name is Clifford which isn't a name I would really want to use... maybe as a middle name. My grandfather went by "Cliff" though so it might be a nice tribute to him. Still... not a favorite name for me haha.

If I didn't absolutely hate the man responsible for my mother's maiden name, then I would totally use a form of it (her maiden name is Jansens and I kind of like Jansen or Jensen). I like the idea, for someone who doesn't have a disgusting, abusive, alcoholic, deadbeat grandpa like I do. :P

oh lol I totally misinterpreted the question somehow.

We are planning to sort of use my maiden name as a middle name if we have more than one boy. My maiden name is Willison and we have Elias Wilson slotted for our 2nd boy right now.

My last name is "Fraser" and the character/TV show "Frasier" always causes people to misspell my last name. Ha.

That said... I don't know if I'd use it. My boyfriend is a Palmer, and I think that's a little too much "-er" going on for me to be comfortable with. Maybe with something else though.

If it's a name that works, I'm good with it. I wouldn't use my own maiden name on a child. Hell, I ditched it as soon as I could myself! One of my cousins has my aunt's maiden name as her middle name and that is fine, I think.

same as everyone else said. If it's a name that works, okay. None of the last names in my or my husband's family would ever in a million years work.

I know a Haley, and that was her mother's maiden name. I think Beyonce was her mother's maiden name, but I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the name, for me. Depends on whether it works and depends on the people. Ever since I found out Coleman is actually a name for kids, I've been like, would I use it on a future son to keep it alive?
