Jan. 1st, 2010 01:50 amhas anyone heard the name josiane?
we are madly in love with josie but want a longer version. we have had various small issues with the other possibilities (josephine and josette) so are just kind of still searching. then we stumbled on this.
we saw it on a dvd at the video store yesterday and we both kind of love it, but are unsure what the correct pronunciation is. i am assuming its french, and did not find it on babynames.com
thanks!
ETA: what do you think of it?
ETA: thanks everyone for all the suggestions but i was really just trying to find out how to pronounce it. my husband and i long ago ran the gamut of JO- names, every single one you guys listed here crossed our paths, and the only two we like are josephine and josette, as i stated in the post. this one caught our eye the other day and we both seemed to like it, but we wanted to find the correct pronunciation before deciding for certain. thanks to anyone that can help with what the proper pronunciation is!

Date: 2010-01-01 06:58 am (UTC)problem is the middle name we are using is colleen, so josephine sounds odd with it. and i dont like josephina. too frilly for my taste.
i didnt want to post the whole saga here, because i did that a couple of months ago already.

Date: 2010-01-01 09:34 am (UTC)I think the only name I like with this nickname is Josephine.

Date: 2010-01-01 10:41 am (UTC)Josephine is a pretty name that you could use Josie as a nickname. I looked it up and Josette and Josina are also names that can be used for Josie as a nickname, if you like either of those.

Date: 2010-01-01 01:06 pm (UTC)Is Josie typically pronounced like Jo-zee or Jo-see? I usually hear Jo-zee but it doesn't make sense with Josephine since that name uses the s sound.

Date: 2010-01-01 03:46 pm (UTC)I never really thought about it, but there aren't many options to have Josie as a nickname. That's too bad.

Date: 2010-01-01 04:42 pm (UTC)However, if you don't live in Brazil, that won't matter, will it? The computer I'm using now doesn't have a microphone, but as soon as I get home I'll say the name and post it so you can know how it is pronounced (at least here). It's not so different from Roseanne.

Date: 2010-01-01 04:53 pm (UTC)I do also like Jocelyn, and that's the first time I've heard anyone using the nn Josie for that.

Date: 2010-01-01 05:12 pm (UTC)I like Josie, but I agree that it should be a nickname for something. What about Jocelyn or even Joceline? The only other 'Jos' name I can think of besides Josephine and Josette is Josepha. Beyond that, you could name her something like Joanna and call her Josie. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it wouldn't be crazy.

Date: 2010-01-01 05:33 pm (UTC)we went through and narrowed down all the JO- names a long time ago and are left with josephine and josette.
i do like johanna (joe-hah-nah) but it seems like too much of a stretch for josie.
thanks for your thoughts :)

Date: 2010-01-01 07:46 pm (UTC)I'd pronounce it josie-ann.

Date: 2010-01-01 07:57 pm (UTC)Josie-wise, for the record, most people for me pronounce it like Jo-zee, except my Jersey relatives are more apt to say Jo-see. :P Which of those were you more leaning towards? I had one professor that always said it like Jah-see, too, and I ended up hating him so it ruined that form of it for me forever.
