[identity profile] nederlandergirl.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Some interesting notices from recent Toronto Star birth announcements (surnames excluded) and my opinions:

Aryana Alia
Bronwyn Victoria and Charlotte Thea (twins, and fairly classy at that)
Carys Lynn
Carys Mary Katherine
Christian Begin
Christina Margaret Helena Rose (because two middles names just weren't enough)
Ella Aimee (DON'T SPELL KREATIYVVELY)
Evangeline Renee (I hope she looks like a supermodel)
Julian Bonaventura (...I'm serious)
Justin Robert Duke
Kian Motavaze (some kind of ethnic)
Lachlan Jersey Bernard
Mason Cooper and Madison Sierra (twins, and I don't think the parents realize that they aren't being original)
Mason Newton (if there ever was a yupster name, this is it)
Xander James Robert (hipster parents hide the nod to family in the middle names)
Zachary Wolf

lol.

Well, if you think about it, every name in existence is "some kind of ethnic", because everyone who ever created a name must have come from some ethnicity.

I should have been more specific. My son's name is Xander. We were going to go with Alexander, but I didn't want my dad to think we were naming our son after him.

Most names are derived from other languages/cultures that can be described as "ethnic", for instance Bronwyn. When you use that word the way you've decided to use it, it just comes off as insensitive. We all know that "ethnic" wasn't really what you meant when you wrote that.

I agree with the above comments.

And I'd also like to add I HATE HATE HATE when people spell "Ariana/nna" wwith a y. Aryana looks like "aryan". Ick.

I like Bronwyn, but mainly because I know a girl it works really well on. And you are kind of all kinds of cranky and wrong in this.

Uhhh...Aimee is the legit French spelling of Amy, and what is wrong with Julian Bonaventura??

You're either trying too hard or just ridiculously misinformed. Either way, FAIL.
