WDYT about the name Porter? It's an old name which makes me like it (my history professor husband informed me that some dude in the Civil War was Porter so-and-so), but it sounds trendy which makes me not like it.

Also, a friend of mine had a baby on Christmas Day and named him Julian George. I like it. Her husband's English so it's quite fitting.

Porter is trendy for now, but beyond that, it's really not that bad of a name. It just makes me think of Desperate Housewives, lol.

I wouldn't use Julian George, but I guess I don't hate it. It does sound pretty English.

Porter is trendy-sounding now, but it has been trendy in the past to give boys their mother's maiden name. Lots of old names aren't traditional names. When I do a quick genealogy search on the name Porter Johnson (just picked a common last name), dozens of them show up. It might be a nice way to use an old name to fit a modern trend, if that is your style.

its not the worst surname ive heard inflicted on a child. i know a kid named trainer. which was his mothers last name.

obviously I like it. like you said, it is an old name, which I like. and it does sound trendy, but I don't think it actually is. thing is, I could see it not being a super common naming but still sounding dated in a few years...there are pros and cons for it, but overall I like it.

Porter is my mother's maiden name, and I have often considered using it one day as a boy's name. My mother's aunt did, but he has never gone by it (Porter Edward, goes by Ted) so I think I might do it.
