Okay, I kept reading it as 'Roy Elizabeth' and I was just like, what a horribly unfortunate name. Not that I like Rory Elizabeth, but it's so much better.

why do people insist on Rory being a girl's name? it's a boy's name... not that I mind boy name on girls all that much but most people don't even seem to know it's a boy's name.

im with you. the only rory i have ever known is a red-haired boy i knew in elementary school. i am not a huge fan of rory (its alright) but i DESPISE aurora, so i am just glad they went with the nickname version. all i can say is perhaps people think its feminine because its a nickname for many girls. if that makes sense.

I don't mind Aurora because of its meaning in Spanish, and since Spanish is my first language is all good but I had never heard the nickname Rory for it...

for what its worth though, i just checked and rory is listed as both a male and female name on babynames.com

i seem to remember asking my cousin when she was pregnant and they were going to go with rory whether it was a boy or a girl. i could be remembering wrong, not positive.

i have some pretty awful names in my family (my generation having kids) so i think this one is nice, even though its not my style.

it's a male name... babynames.com is not a safe bet for names, I use behindthename where the names have to be researched and stuff before making it onto the site.

Its like Charlie, male name that has had that female thing tied to it because of the influx of Charlotte's, but it's still a male name y'know?

and i agree that its a boys name but i have met more than a few little female ryans and tylers born in the past couple of years and to me, those are more male than rory, which at least has a bit of a feminine sound to me.

oh no worries I just think it's a silly site really, not really searched throughout and a lot of their names and meanings are not exactly correct. So I tend to not take anything they say as accurate.

I think boy names on girls are cute... I insist on holding out the hope that one day I can name a child (female) of mine Damien because that en ending just makes it sound so feminine to me (not the an ending or on ending either). But trust me... I am fully aware that it is a male's name but with names like Rory (and heck even Tyler) I have the feeling most people are clueless about the original meaning or anything of the sort.

My friend's brother had a Rory Elizabeth ~6 months ago.

Personally, I think any "-ee" endings for boys sound way too cutesy. Well, too cutesy for girls too, but I guess girls can get away with it more? Geoffrey is my exception to the cutesy, probably because it's more often "Geoff" (or Jeff..) which is more ~manly~. That said, I still sort of like Riley on both genders, but probably wouldn't use it myself on a boy.
