Baby Name Rules...

I mentioned in my intro post that I currently live in Scandinavia. In Denmark there is an acceptable list of baby names. This means you are not allowed to name your child a name not on the list without approval (I believe this goes for odd spellings, too). The list has been relaxed somewhat because of immigration of non-Scandinavians into Denmark--but your best bet is to prove the name is significant to your religion or culture. So no Moon Units. Actually, my mother-in-law told me her parents were not allowed to name her sister Mia back around 1960.

Do you think this is a good idea so kids don't end up with cruel names?

It's okay. My husband's the Dane, not me. :)
His uncle married a Greenlandic woman. Is your mom ethnically Greenlandic or Danish?

I never have met anyone. My mom's the only one in her whole family (parents, 4 siblings, aunts etc) that moved away so shes pretty much a loner Greenlandic person where we live. Shes dying to move back.

But then you'd have to leave Canada or would she go by herself? I imagine it's much different from Canada (I have never been to Greenland).

I wouldn't go. It is most deffinately different in many ways! Although my mom has lived here since she was 17 and has a Canadian citizenship she doesnt consider herself Canadian in ANY way shape or form. Shes been homesick pretty much since the day she left 20 something years ago. I, however don't really identify with the culture in Greenland. Unfortunately I don't know the language, don't eat the food (Im vegan, hate snow) and in genereal Im just very North American-ized. Haha so thats my story. A shorter answer to your question. Id stay , she would go.

Oh and if it means anything .. I wouldn't be like jsut abandonned. My dad , step mom and both their families live here.
