I came across a book by Nora Roberts the other day and picked it up. The heroine's name is Laurellie, Laurel for short. I think it's supposed to be pronounced like Lorelei, since the nn is Laurel. Opinions?

guh I guess I wasn't good at reading. Now that I see that it's SUPPOSED to be pronounced like Lorelei I hate it even more. Lorelei is so pretty why would someone do that to it??

I agree. I also think that just plain Laurel is a nice name by itself.

I would have that Laur-Ellie, but she's firstly and mostly referred to as Laurel in the book. The only person who refers to her by her "full name" is the guy who's chasing her and he does it to tease and irritate her. Haha.

Laur-ellie sounds like someone twisting my name and mating me with Jelly. just ew.

VeI've noticed a lot of mention of Lorelei recently. If memory serves correctly mythologicaly she was an evil siren?

i hate loreli, but i hate laurellie even more. its like the phonetic spelling of it. its kind of obnoxious.

This was my thought exactly. More like Laurel-ee, or Laura-lee. But either way I hate it.

I googled. It's an alternative spelling for Lorelei.

Yikes. Still don't like, haha. Too phonetic...and way too many letters!
