My mom was planning to name me Heather but then when she had me, the only person from my (deadbeat) dad's family that came to see me was my granda Laverne. She was so happy to have her involved in my life that she added the La to my name.
I am glad I was born in a different state than my great-grandmother lived, so that she couldn't influence my mom to name me Katharine Laverne. I think she'd gone loony by then.
