So my boyfriend and I are probably not going to have a kids for a few more years (we need to get married first!) but we have basically already named all our future children.

I want 4 children and my boy says (pretending we have a choice) we should have them, boy, girl, boy, boy. I think maybe boy, girl, boy, girl. But anyway here are our names, which we decided on about 2 years ago.
Oh and by the way we are jewish and I don't believe in giving the kids two sets of names (like Frank in english but Chaim in hebrew) so all the names are english versions of hebrew names.

Elijah Abraham / Eliyahu Avraham
Asher Everett / Asher Ivrit
Caleb Ethan(not 100% decided yet) /Calev Etan

for girls we cannot agree at all
We both are okay with Leah and Naomi
But I really like Adara (he says he knew too many girls by that name in high school)
And he really likes Mirah (I think it sounds like an old lady name)
So maybe:
Adara Miriam / same spelling in hebrew
Mirah Rachel / same spelling in hebrew except you say Rachel like "Rakhayl"

I love the name Adara. I am not Jewish, but I think it's a really pretty name. Adara Miriam is a nice combination. I also like Elijah Abraham.

I think both 'Adara' and 'Elijah' are more contemporary and they are anchored by the more traditional middle names of 'Miriam' and 'Abraham'.
Also I didn't grow up Jewish and never heard the name Adara before I began to do research into Hebrew/Jewish names. I have never met anyone by that name so it seems beautiful and unique to me. Whereas, my boyfriend swears his highschool was filled with Adaras. Oh well I think if I promise that if we have two girls one can be Mirah, he might agree.

Hmm, we've always found it easier to agree on girls names. *shrug* Mostly because we can't find many boy's names that we like individually, let alone ones we both like.

and i like etan for that matter too. i'm not jewish, but there was a boy in high school with the name and he was really attractive and an actual genius, i believe. he went to israel for a year and is now at brown i believe. all the girls had a crush on him..hehe.

Adara is really pretty. I also like Naomi. Naomi Miriam and Naomi Rachel go really nicely too.

yeah see I like the name Naomi, but to me it's a cute name, whereas Adara is a beautiful name. I do think Naomi Rachel looks nice though.

i ADORE elijah but my fiance is jewish, and we both kind of agree that it would be too wierd. obviously you dont. i think thats interesting.

i was raised catholic and to me it would almost be like naming our son jesus (and not the spanish hey-zoos pronunciation).

do you mean weird because it's too 'jewish'? I understand that if it's the case, I'm always suggesting names to my boyfriend that he deems too jewish, like Hadassah for example.

no, im sorry. i meant that it was wierd because elijah is such a holy figure in the jewish tradition. like, sitting there at passover with a son named elijah would be weird, but i guess thats just us though. like i said, to me it would be almost like naming a child jesus. we have several jewish names on our list actually, hannah is our number one girls name, and asher is on our boys short list.

my boy went to brandeis university, which is a jewish school, and knew a girl named hadassah! :)

I totally see what you're saying and where you're coming from and obviously it is the right choice for you not to name your kids after holy figures because it makes you uncomfortable. But I don't think that naming children after holy people is as big a deal in Judaism since most Jewish names come from the Bible already. So to me naming a child Elijah isn't like naming a child Jesus.
People name their kids Moses/Moishe after all.
