Are there any names that you love hearing on other people?

Maybe it's a guilty pleasure (or maybe your partner has told you that there's no way in hell they'd ever have a kid with that name .. ehhem) and you're just glad that SOMEONE is using it, maybe it's a little validation that said name isn't as weird or out there as others claim it is, maybe it's something hard to pronounce and gaining a little popularity might help people know how it should be said... maybe something else entirely. Why do you like hearing that name?

Well, considering that this was inspired by seeing "Atticus" in that last post... that's one of them. Others include Desmond, Nolan, Eloise, Katarina, Lacey, Elisa and Eva. The boys names all fall into that "no kid of mine is going to be named ___" category. Well, I think he likes Atticus, but not enough to actually have a kid with that name. I will push Nolan until I hate it or convince him, though. ;)

Lacey and Elisa are guilty pleasures. I thought I invented the name "Elisa" when I was 6 years old (then pronounced like Alyssa) and I think it looks prettier than Alyssa, though usually pronounced differently, I still like it. I don't think I'd use it now, but it makes me smile seeing it. Normally I'm not really fond of names that end in the "-ee" sound because they tend to sound overly cutesy, but I like this one for whatever reason, though I couldn't see myself using it.

I think Katarina and Eva are both just really nice, pretty names. Eloise joins that list, but since I've began liking it, I've seen it EVERYWHERE. It doesn't help that there's a song called "Eloise" on the newest Say Anything CD. I'd still use all of these, though.

I've always liked Zander and Zane on boys. But I don't think I would have the guts to use Zander, and my Hubby doesn't like Zane. I think I like Zeke too. I think it would be a great nickname for Ezekiel.

I have a friend who has an Alexander nn Xander...it would be a way to give him more nn options and a "normal" name if you didn't have the guts to just name him Zander.

I always get really excited when I hear "old lady" names on girls under the age of 25. Harriet, Esther, Hazel, Calla, Margaret, etc. Anything you'd normally hear on a woman over the age of 65 but rarely hear these days. I find them refreshing, and since I love those names myself, I always love pointing them out to someone who thinks they're too old and saying, "See, she can pull off Harriet!"

Hehe, when I was 7 or 8 I thought I'd invented using Crystal as a name. I thought I was SO clever, until I met a girl a year or two later that was named Crystal.

Logan is my guilty pleasure, but I decided against it. There were a lot of names I like, but they don't sound right with our last name, which is somewhat unusual, so... once we decided on a name for our son, I stopped thinking up names. Tooooooo stressful and I don't want to change my mind now, lol.

Me, too! But with my SO's last name, it would make her sound like a law firm or publishing house LOL

THe last name will be Lucier, so I think something like Harper Amelia Lucier would be gorgeous, but since our Prime Minister's name is Stephen Harper and we HATE him, we won't use the name until he is at least out of office for a few years.

I love Wren on girls. Most bird names actually, Sparrow, Robin, Dove, Starling. Also tree names: Rowan, Willow, Hazel.

Maybe it's hippy/nature names? Because on boys I also like that natural thing: River, Sage, Forest, Leaf, West, etc.

However, I am not hippy/outdoorsy enough to pull any of these off.

A colleague of my mom's named their kid Hazel last year! Ditto to this - I'm obsessed with nature names, but I am simultaneously the anti-hippie.

I love bird names too: Phoebe, Lark, Wren (not Starling just because it's such a pest) but as an ornithologist, I think it would be too much. So I will just have to love them on other people's kids.

I think you could get away with the less literal bird names! Phoebe or Evelyn maybe, or a more explicit bird middle name. (My last name is Avis so that's why I identify with bird names.)

I love Wren to death. Also Phoebe. And Willow and Rowan. I actually know a Rowan, although I don't think it goes very well with her last name.

LOL! I foresaw the Aidan trend 14 years ago. I tried to get my sister to name her son Aidan. Still love the name, but HATE the popularity and bastardization that has occurred. In the end, I feel validated, but relieved to have a Johnathan....wow, who would have thought a time would come when John would be the more "unusual" name LOL

I know a little girl named Daria. I love the name but when I mention it to ANYONE they are stuck on that godawful cartoon character and I think the name is really nice.

I secretly love the name Madison. Never in a thousand years would I give it to a child of my own.

Arianna. My partner says no way, but I do love to hear it being used by others.
