[identity profile] depeche810.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I found this on www.nydailynews.com. I'm so glad that Emily is dropping in popularity, or so it seems. It is one of my and my husband's favorite girl names.

Sophia and Jayden reigned as the most popular Big Apple baby names last year, edging out Isabella and Daniel for the top slots.

Michael, the top boy name for 50 years until 2007, slid to third place behind Daniel, the Health Department reported Wednesday.

On the girls' side, Emily trailed in third place behind Isabella.

But preferences varied among race and ethnic groups.

White families favored Olivia for girls and Daniel for boys, while black parents opted for Madison and Jayden.

The top names for Hispanics were Ashley and Jayden, and Asians picked Sophia and Ryan.

Other names cracking the top ten included Mia, Samantha, Emma, Justin, Joshua, David and Matthew.

Biblical names, such as David and Daniel, are perennial favorites because they cross cultures, according to baby experts.

Many parents drew on celebrities for inspiration, naming their little ones Angelina, Keira, Miriah and Rihanna.

Others went for originality, settling on Clementine or Keon, the names of more than a dozen newborns.

OH! Lol you're probably right. I was pronouncing it like Miriam without the M at the end and I was just completely baffled!
