I went to see The Blind Side last night, and the teenage daughter's name was Collins. What I'm pretty sure was originally a surname, and a pretty masculine-sounding one at that. WDYT?
That one caught me off guard! At first I thought they were calling some girl by her surname, until I realized she was their daughter.
In general I'm not a fan of masculine-sounding names on girls, but I do have a weakness for the tradition of surnames (especially maiden names) as middle names, and there's not that much of a jump to using it as a first name. I guess I kind of liked it because it seemed like a family name, and not just a surname that someone picked because it sounded good.
