Came across this name at work today. It's was the name of a girl I called. I was kind of embarrassed saying the name aloud.

I think I went to middle school with a Scholastica. I'd never use it, but I actually kind of like it.

maybe they were inspired? i see it here and there amongst old mexican ladies. maybe it was faddish to use those sort of names in the mid 1860s ( when she was born)? the only thing i know about the lady is had that name and my grandma said she was a mean old bat

ah, yes, in secluded, old-fashioned, very catholic places in Italy sometimes you can find a Scolastica among the older generations :)
Needless to say, it's the adjective that means "school related", so it's kind of stupid.
