I prefer Dharma if we're talking about eastern virtue names.

Last I checked, righteousness and duty are virtuous. Though your comment has nothing to do with actual names other than the fact that you are just trying to nitpick my use of a word, so I'm not entirely sure why I'm bothering.

I met a girl named Karma once. She seemed to like it well enough, though I didn't get a chance to talk to her much about it.

They might as well have named her Mistake.

I know at least a dozen kids who would make that joke, myself included. Really, those parents should be institutionalized.

I was 18 when I had my son, he got a perfectly normal and properly spelled name. Age is never an excuse, that's for sure.

True, true. But it does seem that a lot of kids with crazy names have young parents... at least the ones we see in this community.

Also, how is Tyrese pronounced? Is it anything like Therese?

Reminds me of Tyrone. And Therese, which wouldn't be a bad middle name.

Without considering meaning, etc. I don't think it's a bad SOUNDING name. Along the lines of Kara, Kyra, Kyla, Keira etc. I bet she will actually get Karma Chameleon more than Karma's a bitch but I'm sure that will rear its head. Hopefully she'll be the kind of girl who can laugh it off and will end up liking the originality of her name. At least it's spelled correctly, right?

Actually along similar lines, I really love the name Ida. But as my husband pointed out, she'd end up getting called Ida-ho, and I just can't do that to a daughter of mine.

LOL to Ida-ho. I wouldn't think of that, but then I'm not American, so it's something a bit distant for me.

The name doesn't sound bad, that's true, but in this case the meaning is so there that it's just impossible to ignore. But hey, at least she'll have an excuse to dress as an X-man every Halloween.

I didn't think of it either but my husband did IMMEDIATELY. When I suggested it for our daughter he actually thought I was joking because it was the first thing that came to his mind. And while I figure pretty much everybody gets teased about their name in some fashion, something with such a negative and misogynistic slur crosses it off my list...even though I still love it. I guess I'll have to name a dog Ida or something. ;) Maybe if we didn't live on the West Coast it wouldn't be so obvious, I dunno. If any Idas are reading I hope they will weigh in on whether they were teased about it.

I went to a school with a girl named Karma, she is a bitch but I never thought to say "Karma's a bitch", but I really wish I did now.

I did remember Karma Chameleon though.

My first thought was of Karma Chameleon- lol, I used to love that song as a kid. Tyrese is a boy's name.

Blah, her name is horrible. :(

Yuck.
My new test for whether a name is okay or not is to think about how it would sound called over the intercom at a retail store (stemming from the fact that I used to work in retail and everyone's name got called over the intercom all the time). "Karma to the office, please" just doesn't work for me. :P

yeah, my tester, is "*insert name here* come back here!", because I use the metro, and a bunch of the kids like to wander all over the bus, and their parents have to call their names out loud.

It's one of those many names which seem such a good idea to people who don't have to LIVE with it....

Karma Tyrese just reminds me of "Karma Police" by Radiohead, haha.

LOL! That's really all I've got.

Ironically, despite my dislike of Karma, I'm kind of diggin' Kismet as a name LOL
