Nov. 20th, 2009 10:29 amOk, so what do you guys think about these names?
Delaney
MacKenzie
I'm stuck on girl's names. I can't think of any good boy names - I want something that's not incredibly common, but not something REALLY out-there either. Help????

Date: 2009-11-20 03:55 pm (UTC)Delaney is an odd name, but I have a friend with a little girl named Delanie and she's adorable so the name is cute; and the spelling is MUCH better without the 'y'

Date: 2009-11-21 01:20 am (UTC)I don't like Delaney. It seems like a last name. Also, I have no idea what sex this name usually associated with, but I always picture a boy.

Date: 2009-11-21 02:09 am (UTC)Whereas MacKenzie and any of its variant spellings have always bothered me. I know it's been repeated so many times on this community so I do apologize for the rehash, but "mac" means "son of." So when someone names their daughter that, it essentially means "son of Kenneth." I understand that meanings and gender usage for names change over time, but I still can't get past that.
Besides, I spent the early years of my childhood in the 80's--all I can think of is Spuds MacKenzie!

Date: 2009-11-21 03:32 am (UTC)Now, Delaney I like. Problem is that its my nephew's middle name (family tradition on his dad's side) so I'll never be able to use it or anything. I think it works well on boys or girls...but as a first name I think it works better on girls (the boys in my family are Logan Delaney and John Delaney nn Lane, btw).

Date: 2009-11-21 10:17 pm (UTC)MacKenzie is my last name (well McKenzie) and it's always annoyed me to use it as a first name.
