The first few come from my father-in-law, who was a teacher in the 70's and 80's.

Smonomo (emphasis on the first syllable)--and this wasn't an urban legend, he actually bragged that his mother took the letters from a No Smoking Sign and switched them around.

Vagina (but pronounced like Virginia)--her mother misspelled it on the birth certificate and no one thought to correct her.

Shitonya--pronounced Shuh-TAWN-yuh, but it certainly looks like something else, doesn't it?
