I started training a new girl at work last night. Sonoma. Yes, like the place/truck/diet/cigarettes you've heard of. I would like to say that now I'm biased and I like it, because it suits her so well and I like the idea of different, kind of weird names, but I can't. It doesn't really suit her, and while I do like unpopular names, this ain't one of them. The whole night I found it hard to wrap my mouth around; it was hard not to call her Samoa or Somona the whole night.

But, WDYT?

I think it's pretty. I don't live near Sonoma and have never heard of the cigarettes, so it's not a word I hear or use very often. This girl was also born probably before the truck and diet came into being so it's kind of too bad she's associated with those things now.

Since you're her superior, try not to let your dislike of her name taint your opinion of her as a person. This post sounds kind of judgmental.

This came off as judgmental? Okay, don't get that at all, and it certainly wasn't the point. I really like her, and I'm not even her superior. I'm just commenting on her name. I was referring to so many people who post, "I would've hated (insert name here), but then I met a really nice person with it and now I love it!" If anybody could make me like a name, it'd be this girl, but even with how sweet and nice she is, I still can't like the name.

And just another thing, she was born 9 years after the truck came out, and her father is an auto mechanic. So that's why she gets it a lot.

I agree with you. I don't like Sonoma or Sonora as names, even though they are both beautiful places.

I've never heard of Sonoma as anything but the place - I think it's pretty, but I'm generally kind of partial to place names.

i like Sonoma.... it is an absolutely beautiful place in Wine Country NorCal, and I think it's fitting for a girl. Never heard of a sonoma truck, i can only think of the tacoma truck for some reason.... and the diet/cigs? NEVER heard of either.

I think it's kind of pretty. I've never heard of any trucks/diets/cigarettes called Sonoma, so the only association I have is with the very lovely (and classy) region.
