oh i didnt take it as bitchy ... i know what you mean. it has become very common for girls but i really like it for a boy ... when i was younger i thought harper lee was a man ... so i have always gone off that.
I really don't like it.. it's a pretty name, but it reminds me of Harper on Wizards of Waverley Place (played by Jennifer Stone) and she annoys the craaaaaap out of me. It's a pretty name for a girl :)
I like it, but I think of it as a last name more than anything. That being said, I've heard of a lot of girls named Harper lately (seems masculine to me, if anything). It's probably well on its way to becoming super trendy.
I don't like it- it doesn't sound very nice. Sounds like last name to me, but if used as a first...a boy comes to mind. I think it'd be ugly on a girl, tbh.
I think I picture a girl on first hearing it, but I don't think it would srtike me as very odd on a boy. In fact, I might like it more on a boy, because my main problem with it is that it sounds like 'Harpie', which isn't such a strong association on a guy...but maybe that's just me.
I went to college with a girl whose last name was Harper and that's what everyone called her. (She had a generic first name so it was easier that way.) It seemed to work well on her. Often people didn't realize that it wasn't her first name.
Harper = girl for me (because of Harper Lee). I don't love it, it's along the lines of Piper which I also don't love. Also it seems that every Harper I know has a brother or sister named Quinn. What's up with that?
When I first started hearing that name, all I could think of was John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry. :\ I couldn't stand the name at all.
Now, I picture a mix-raced little girl wearing lavender ribbons for some odd reason. I don't hate the name, but I'm not really a fan either. Part of me has started to want to like it, but I just don't. It's kind of like Piper, which I see someone has already mentioned, in that respect for me.

Date: 2009-11-10 05:05 am (UTC)I like the name, on a boy or girl. I'd pair it with an uber masculine or uber girly name rather than a unisex name, though.
