Leila or Layla? Or a different spelling?

Both are fine I think. The Layla spelling conjures up Eric Clapton and seems more modern, while Leila is classic.

Leila I pronounce as LEE-la.
Layla I pronounce as LAY-la.

Which one are you asking about?
Or is it different?

Lei to me looks like LEE, so that's how I pronounce it. I'd have a hard time remembering to say LAYla.

OH so that's how you spell that! LOL. I haven't gone outside much of where I'm from and where I live now :)

I live on the west coast, it's definitely pronounced 'lay' I can think of a Hawaiian name, Leilani, which is pronounced lay-lawn-ee.

I'm weird, I see Leilani as Lay-Law-Ne, but Leila as Lee-la.

Ditto to the other comments: Leila is Leela while Layla is Lay-la, lol.

It wouldn't be weird to pronounce it the Lay-la way, but it wouldn't be the first thing that I thought of when reading the name.

I think of Futurama and the character Leela. And I believe that is how it's spelled, too.

Leila!
And my husband prefers Layla (because of Clapton)
and that is why we can never have a daughter with that name :(

Leila. It looks much nicer.

I don't like the name, but I prefer Layla for the Clapton reference.

I prefer Leila. It's actually my #1 girl name:) I don't like Layla because I see LAY...like lay down or getting laid...maybe my head is just too much in the gutter but you know how people, especially kids can be. And I could just see it like, LAYla, like she likes to lay down...on her back *winkwinknudgenudge*

Plus I'm not a fan of Ys in names in general unless it's ending a name.

i think leila looks prettier, but layla is more likely to be pronounced correctly.

my daughter is Laila

I'd go for Leila

Layla for that pronunciation.

I know it's technically not right, but I think "LYE-luh" when I see Leila because the only Leila I've ever met pronounced it that way.

Leila looks like it should be pronounced LIE-luh.

Leila looks better, Layla is more likely to get the right pronunciation.

My mother's name is Leila (we say Lee Eye La) and my daughter's name is Lilah (Lie La) so when I see these names it's no contest for me. I would always choose Leila over Layla, reguardless of how anyone else would pronounce it.

Layla, definitely.

Honestly, I think with Leila you will have a LOT of people saying Leela. Plus, I think Layla looks better.

I liked Layla, but ended up choosing Ayla for my daughter :)
