Hello! I’m in the process of getting things together to begin writing my first novel. I have the main character’s name picked out, but haven’t completely zeroed in on what her personality’s gonna be like. So I was hoping maybe you guys would be able to help me out.

If you met someone named Echo, what type of personality do you think they’d have? Lookswise, what do you think she’d look like?

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I'd see her as pallid, long-nosed, rather drippy and one of those earnest, retro-New-Age-hippy types... but that's just me.

And a character like that would be fun to read as well, especially in an action plot :)

The sort of person who just seems all... wet. Though I've seen people with noses that don't actually drip, but always seem about to... :)

my family hosted an exchange student from Japan named Ekko, pronounced Echo, so I have a difficult time separating the name from her. :P

she was cute, very energetic, book-smart, driven/motivated, friendly...
she had straight, black hair that was about to her shoulders. she was 16 and therefor had a pretty bad case of acne. :P average body type, and probably about 5'3" tall.

I knew an Echo all through school, from Pre-K on. I'd probably think of her, so: tall, thin, dark hair and eyes. Quiet.

That guy off lost. Think it's a terrible "name".

I'd picture someone quiet, graceful and nature-oriented, with long light blond hair, light green eyes and fair skin.
She would be more mature for her age during her life, and a dreamer.
Someone in touch with the "other side" and/or very good with animals.
A slight inclination towards depression as she reaches adulthood (probably due to never finding someone she could really click with, although she's always well-liked wherever she goes).

The idea that a name has to relate to the character of a book is stupid. Instead of picking a name that has some sort of ~significant meaning~ (Ruby if she has red hair, Blanche is she's the pure, virginal type, etc.), look at her parents. If they were New Age hippie sorts, they'd probably go with Echo. But if they're more traditional, they would probably go with something like Elizabeth or Katherine.

I agree, the name would tell me more about her parents than about the character. I would assume her parents were overeducated academics who named her after the Greek goddess. Therefore I would assume she was white and from an upper or upper-middle class background, and probably intelligent.

There's a character named Echo in one of V.C. Andrew's books. The mother named the little girl that because she was deaf, it's was kind of an ironic mean thing. The little girl was very creative and bright, however.

I imagine her with brown hair, straight bangs, freckles, very friendly, smart and adventurous.

I knew an Echo, she was really pretty. She was an art major in college, dressed very indie/arsty but really good taste in clothes so it always was fashionable vs. overdone. Wore scarves a lot. Average height, skinny, long blonde hair with one blue streak in the front. Fairly quiet until she was around people she knew well and then she had a decent sense of humor.

I recently met a girl called Echo, she was Asian. She was very nice, a little quiet maybe, and friendly. I don't know her that well =).

I think it's a great name, actually, but I keep being reminded of the nymph in the myth and that's...a little sad.
