Current favorite boy's name: Graham

How would you pronounce it? I think Americans pronounce it like "gram" but the one Graham I went to school with in western Canada pronounced it like GREY-em. Both are all right, I guess, but I can't decide which I prefer. Thoughts?

Yeah, in the UK it's Gray-um. It was very confusing watching an American TV show once and thinking that they actually called a character Gram.

This. It sounds stupid to me when it's just one syllable.

with my accent, there's really not much of a difference between the two.

I was born and raised in Western Canada and I've never heard "grey-em". I'd definitely only pronounce it "gram".

I'm American (from the northeast), and I've never heard it as "Gram." I would say Gray-um.

I'm American, I've heard it pronounced both ways, I prefer Gray-um.

I pronounce it like a combination of both-- "Gra'am."

This for me, too. My 34 year old brother is named Graham. It floats somewhere between 1 and 2 syllables. :)

I'm American and I tend to pronounce it like this- where it slides into a very slight two syllables instead of one.

I'm Canadian, and I've always said Gray-um. I like that a lot, but I don't like Gram.

GRAM. I've never heard it said any other way, though I have heard people say in some places it's sometimes pronounced with two syllables. I love Graham! It's such a strong and handsome, yet gentle and kind name.

I've heard both, but I think I pronounce it 'gram' more often than not. Grey-um is just too much for me.

Originally from the Midwest (US) and I've never heard it as anything other than 'Gram' (graham crackers, anyone?). I guess it's different for everybody in North America!

I have a friend named Graeme, pronounced Grey-um, and a friend named Graham, pronounced Graaam. I'm in western Canada.

I am currently trying to come up with a name for my son who is due in January and I really like Graham for a middle name, if only I could figure this question out. The fact that the pronunciation is so iffy bothers me. I like it Grey-um... but most people seem to say Gram (which sounds like a nick-name for someone's grandma to me) I know that Billy Graham is pronounced gram usually.
I think I am going to skip it and use Grey for a middle name instead. lol

I'm in Australia and I pronounce it kind of like... GRAY-um. Well, I think that's probably the same as the way you wrote.

I like it.
