first things first: I LIKE UNIQUE NAMES. I like unusual and strange names. Like celebrity names, but not like Apple or Sparrow or anything like that. I just feel strongly about the fact that I do not want my baby to be the 5th kid in his or her class to be called Aiden or Jaden or Kaden.

that being said, I need ideas for more unique names. So far I have 3 boys names and 3 girls names that I'm toying with, but nothing has really struck me as The One. My ideas:

BOYS
Elian Izaiah [this is the one baby daddy likes]
Emery Rien [BD thinks this one sounds too feminine]
Epic Amadeo [personal favorite ^^ except the middle name is a little iffy]

GIRLS
Jocelin Mykaela
Elijah Antigone [info on the name Antigone]
Sian Mykaela

even though its the most 'out there' choice, Epic is my favorite boys name. And since I'm hoping for a baby boy, i've been thinking about it alot. Amadeo is not my favorite MN to go with it, but i've had a hard time coming up with a word to go along with Epic. Beside WIN. XD

i'm really just looking for some inspiration... tell me of some crazy unique names you've heard in real life [please no celeb names, i've already exhausted that outlet].

Oh yea i've also heard of band names that would make good names, like the names Aiden and Emery for example are also the name of bands. A couple that I really like and am considering are Saosin and Anberlin, both girls names.

I think the name Epic would be a mistake, because the first thing I think of is Epic Fail. : / Who knows, might not be such a popular meme when he's older and in school, but I wouldn't chance it myself.

Yes, but kids have a tendency to be the opposite of their name when it has to do with, like, winning and losing, etc. Like the guy that named his last two boys Winner and Loser. It is a name he might feel he has to live up to, and can't, he can't be EPIC...and that could ruin him.

I thought of Epíc Fail too. Amadeo, on the other hand, is very nice.

Elian just makes me think of Elian Gonzales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elian_Gonzalez_affair).

I'm not really sure how any of those are unique... Elian definitely isn't, and then Isaiah (or Izaiah) is pretty popular right now. Same with Emery. And then Epic fits right into the whole Story/Poet/Sonnet/etc. trend. Jocelyn is common, Mykaela is insanely trendy, and Sian fits into the whole Irish trend. Elijah fits into the boys-names-on-girls trend.

I think if you want a truly uncommon name, pick a REAL name, but one that is currently very uncommon. Go to behindthename.com, for example, and look in, say, the top 1000 baby names for the 1920s, and then look way down in the 800s or 900s on that list.

Most names that people think are 'unique' are actually pretty trendy. It would be 'unique' right now to name a baby Mildred, or Barbara.

Seconded. Seriously, I don't find your choices very unique. They're all trendy in one way or the other. Some of the names are pretty nice (such as Jocelyn, Amadeo and Michaela), and some are pretty out there for me to consider it (such as Epic, which I think it will cause your son to be teased his whole life), but they're not really unique.

That said, why don't you try to find some names in other languages? Maybe some of them have the unique vibe you're looking for!

Most of these names are just regular names mispelled or trendy names - which I REALLY don't like. However, I don't mind using very unique names! It's not really my taste but I don't think it's awful.

That being said, I kind of like Epic and Amadeo. And I kind of like Antigone for your girl names.

That random renamer has always come up with some pretty interesting stuff.

Elijah is a pretty popular name right now. My son is Elijah and I know two or three women with their children named Elijah. To name a girl that? I don't know, people would be looking at her name and thinking she's a man automatically. What about Elliott, like on the show Scrubs? Still a boy name all the way, but works better on a girl than Elijah.

I like Antigone. And funny you mention the band thing, because there was also a band with that name, Antigone Rising. :)

I personally like Epic. :]

Don't do what I did.. I love unique names. My SO's name is Briar. I wanted to name our daughter Juniper Bailey. But everyone kept giving me grief about it.. We debated on so many names and then when she was born, we ended up switching it and naming her Bailey Juniper. I look at this kid and totally see her as a Juney/Juniper, but Bailey fits her too, I guess.

SO, NAME YOUR KID WHAT YOU WANT!!

I like both Juniper Bailey and Bailey Juniper, though I prefer the latter; besides, who said you can't call your kid Juney if you want to?

She's young enough you can still change it!

Juniper is pretty. At first I was kind of...uhhh...but saying it and looking at her, I could see it, especially since you have the nickname options that are easier for people to pronounce and understand, she could go by Juniper or just June to keep things easier on others.

I like Sian as a first name for a girl, and Antigone as a middle. If unique is what you're looking for, I don't think Mykaela is the way to go, even if you don't give it a standard spelling. I think Sian and Antigone go together because Antigone is long, so pairing it with short Sian helps each name complement eachother, imo.
