Lear seems kind of self-conscious to me, plus it's a homophone for leer which turns me off.

Cornelia has potential. There's the unfortunate Corn. I'd try for Neelie, Nellie, or Lia for nicknames, or you could go a little more abstract and use Coco. Since you like Lear, though, why not Cordelia instead of Cornelia? Then you have the nice Delia as a nn, and Cord/Cordy is more pleasant than Corny.

I've been bouncing back and forth between those two names for like, 4 years now. I finally settled on cornelia (nelia?). but I don't have to have a nickname for my pretend babies.

I like it because it reminds me of a little girl I know whose name is Cordelia. She goes by Delia, and I think it's very cute, so I like Cornelia also :)

Lear is pretty in theory. I don't like that it's too close to Leah not to sound feminine and is also one letter away from "fear" and two from "leery".
But I guess I'm overanalyzing it.

Cornelia is NMS, but Nelly, Coco and Lia all seem doable.

Lear has an alright sound, but I don't like the way it looks. I do like Llyr... same sound.

Not a huge fan of Cornelia. I like Cordelia, but the "corn" part is just unattractive to me. As for nicknames all I can think of are Corrie or Neil/Neily (or however you'd want to spell it).

Lear makes me think of the word leer, so I'm not a fan.
I've always found Cornelia to be really ugly- the 'corn' part is a big turn off. :(

Cornelia's alright, but kind of old-fashioned in my mind. I like Cordelia better.

I like the sound of Lear, but the negative associations with King Lear are too strong for me. Spelling it Lir might help? It doesn't look as good to me, but it doesn't have the same connotations.

I know I really don't like Cornelia. That's really unattractive to me, in look and sound. Lear is just so legendary. That's a lot to live up to, there. It doesn't seem like a name to me, beyond that. Like it's not complete enough.

Hmm... no, don't like Cornelia. There's the whole 'corny' thing, and in my language, 'corno' is a slang for someone who's been cheated on, so the poor girl would be called 'corna' for the rest of her life. I wouldn't do that to my kid.

Now, Cordelia I like better. You could use practically all the nicknames used for Cornelia.

As for Lear, I agree that it's a bit too legendary. It sounds good, but only in a book character capacity. Though the name is nice, it is not something I'd consider naming my son.

I like Cory/Corrie and Connie as nicknames for Cornelia. Not so much a fan of Lear as a first name. Maybe as a middle name?
