[identity profile] pegasus2o5.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

Recap: The villain of my story goes by the name Lilith, but that's not her real name. I want her real name to be something very frilly and girlish and delicate, preferably a flower. I want a big contrast with her psycho personality, but not to the point of being funny (i.e. Daffodil is out). She was born in the Victorian Era so the name needs to be era-appropriate and a flower known in England.

It seems to have come down to Primrose vs. Peony.

Primrose-- a little over-the-top? Too connected to The Hunger Games?

Peony-- is it immediately recognizable as a flower? Is pronunciation a problem? (Maybe I'm weird but I can't stand for my characters' names to be mispronounced.)

Weigh in on the great debate!

I would vote for Peony. Primrose is a little too over the top to me. I think Peony is easily pronounceable and recognizable.

I think these are both good choices, but my vote goes to Primrose. Peony is recognizable, and it's fine to pronounce, but I don't think it quite gives the girly, delicate sense you're going for.

Primrose. Peony actually sounds exuberant and un-Victorian to me (though there may have been as many Victorian girls named Peony as Primrose).

I voted for Peony last time, and I stand by it :)
Primrose is more of an herb than a flower to me, because of Primrose Oil.

i vote for primrose. peony reminds me too much of country flowers. idk. though, to me, peony seems more of a contrast to being psycho than primrose. unhelpful comment is unhelpful. (i just finished reading the hunger games... man, i freaking inhaled it! i can't wait to get my hands on the second book, omg. XD )
