[identity profile] sundust17.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi everyone, I am writing a story and one of the characters names is going to be Laena or Layna, both are pronounced the same (LAY-na) but I wasn't sure which spelling was better. I prefer Laena, I just wasn't sure if it would be pronounced correctly being spelled like that.

Thanks for your help! (and sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed, I know it's for a character not a baby)

I like Layna more by a long shot.

Layna, definitely. The spelling seems more intuitive and although I'm not a big fan of the letter Y in names, I think it's a lot easier than an ae.

I actually like a different spelling better than either of these: Lena. (I know some people pronounce that differently, but I know someone with this name who pronounces it Lay-na).

It depends on the situation; if you're writing a sf or fantasy novel and Laena is an alien, faerie, etc., Laena is acceptable. Otherwise, my eye really prefers Layna.

Layna.
Laena makes me want to pronounce it as if it were a Hawai'ian name, haha. ^^

I went to school with a Laina, and I always thought it was kind of pretty.

After that, I suppose I like Lana best, but I guess that could be confused with LANN-uh.

Layna is easier for me to read. Great name either way, though!
