I totally agree... Luke is not a nickname to Lucas and never was in my opinion.

I thought everyone names their kid Lucas and gives them Luke as a nickname.. which I don't understand much either because Luke is a complete name of its own... but I've never heard of it going the other way, with Lucas as a nickname for Luke
