How do you pronounce Chloe?  I've always thought it was like "Klo" and the nickname was pronounced with an "ee" at the end.  We're going to have a girl, and we really like the name, but after researching the pronounciation, I get the idea that it's actually pronounced "Klowey".

Does Chloe Sevigny pronounce it with an "ee" sound at the end?  I'm so confused!

Any experience/help?

Edit: Okay, gotcha! I guess I've never actually heard it pronounced aloud before and have just continued thinking it was pronounced the way I thought it was when I first read it and said it in my head! (Ooops, I feel like a huge dork now!) hahaha!  Thanks guys!

Wait.. what's the difference between Klo-ee and Klowey? Like.. same beginning sound as clam..?

If that's the case: I've never heard (or heard of) that pronunciation and as far as most people are concerned, it's "klo-ee."

The difference (as far as I understand it) is that the "w" sound is very pronounced in the latter, so it's more like Klow-wey... I don't know if that makes sense. :S

I've never heard it said "Klo." To my knowledge, it's definitely "Klowey."

The name itself is klo-ee, but a girl I know named Chloe goes by the nickname "Chlo", which is pronounced klo.

Chloe Sevigny pronounces it klo-ee as well.

I have never in my life heard it pronounced Klo. I would think that that would be a nickname, if anything. And yes, I've only ever heard Chloƫ Sevigny pronounced with the 'ee' sound at the end.

I've always pronounced it (and heard it pronounced) "Klo-ee." I always thought the more pronounced "w" version sounded like a toddler saying it. :S

It's Klo-ee, yes. I've never heard it pronounced 'klo,' though I'm sure someone out there uses it as a nickname.

it's pronounced Klow-ee. I used to think it was Klo when I was younger (like I thought "Claire" was clar-EE), but I was wrong.

Everyone I've ever known has pronounced it "Klowey" as you put it. I like it, but I'm having a boy lol.

Don't feel bad, I'd never actually HEARD the name either and had no idea how it was properly pronounced. When I did finally hear it, and then realize that was the spelling of the name...I felt like an idiot, LOL.

That's what happened to me with the name Siobhan. I heard the name spoken for the first time on a TV show (even though I had looked up how it was pronounced a few years before), and I guess I didn't make the connection because the character was a trailer trash kind of girl and didn't look Irish, so I thought it was spelled Chevonne or something, haha.

If you are liking the O sound at the end, how do you feel about Cleo? I think it's so cute! One of my daughter's friends is a Cleo and it sounds so fresh compared to the zillion Chloes running around.
